VBA32 released!

DJ I think the latest GCC is faster than ARM now. Ask Rob about his custom build.

Craig was onto something there,

Been playing with both Rob's custom build of GCC 3.3.2 and a build I made of GCC 3.4 and I have to say I don't think there is much in it between ADS and the newer versions of GCC. I really must do some tests but apps don't feel any slower or faster when compiled in either environment. Just about the same (and considering GCC is free that is a huge + point). I am sticking with GCC 3.3.2 even though I own ADS as I prefer my setup of that.

As for GBA emulation, not a big deal if it never gets off the ground but to see commercial games running (even at this low speed) bodes very well for other 16bit systems like the SNES, Mega drive etc. getting to the holly grail of 80-90% speed.

I'm just amazed to see Mario Kart Super Circuit running on my GP32. This is an amazing feat and maybe will make people believe that better things (maybe not playable commercial games) are possible. If the author just wanted us to judge his work on the GB/GBC then he could have disabled GBA emulation. The fact that he didnt shows me that he is adventurous and wanted to try this ....... all i can say is good work.

source  WHERE!!! i haven't tried this yet, but i will in a while. i just want a peek at the source!!!

cool down guys the author of vba32 said; i repeat myself <_< ; that he will opotimize the gb/gbc emulation and not the gba emulation for a while!

Hopefully some others will play with the source and optimize the gba emu

One non-game utility that does work on VBA32 is the GBA version of MakeBook(www.bookreader.co.uk). This is an ebook creator for GB or GBA. It supports many different languages and allows you to index your books eg chapters. The GBA version has extra features like "goto" and music (midi - not sure if this works), multiple bookmarks and colour pictures. Some of these require registration - £14. Well worth a look.

I can't get anything to run on it! Everything that I try ends up rebooting my GP32! I tried both GBA roms and PD roms. I can only run gb/gbc roms. Any advice? Also, how do I exit back to the meun when in a rom?
I still can't get it to work! I can only get gb/gbc roms to work. Whenever I try to run gba roms or gba pd roms, the GP32 always reboots! How can I fix this? BTW, I'm using Euro FM.

I use euro fw too.

At first it worked for me with gba roms (kururin, fzero, mariokart).
Then one day later it was the same problem... it always rebbooted.

i played some othe games and then after i had used the gp for some mins i tryed again and then it worked!

don't know why!

yup to all who want to play all the gba roms on a handheld:
buy a damn gba + flashlinker it rox :D well gp32 rox more 4 sure B)

I already have a gba.
BUT i don't want to take it with me like my gp32.

So it would be nice if it would be possible to play my gba games on my gp!
(i don't want it THAT badly, but it would be very nice!)

Yeah I got a flashlinker for my GBA too.. it can be a pain in the ass sometimes though (software doesnt work until you reboot it every now n' again)

Now on topic, I tried the emulator with Mario Advance 1 (Super Mario 2), Mario Kart and a select buncha GB/GBC games that I use for fGB beta.. it's got compatibility and it's got sound (gp32x somehow said there was no sound, if I can remember correctly  ) But the one thing it needs is optimization. As soon as the speed for the GB/GBC emulation has been perfected this will be my favorite GBA emulator, even if the GBA part isnt emulated at perfect speed ;)
