Unheard of or odd gaming systems/computers!

^^^^I've seen similar machines at gamescom a few years ago. They look a little different. So many strange types of game controllers.

Interesting reading about the adventure vision. It would be nice to play one.
Yeah, I grew up in the 70's and 80's, so I played most of the handheld and table top gaming electronic devices of the time(most US released ones anyways), but the Adventure Vision escaped my knowledge until much later. It's a wicked cool device, and I'm glad to say I was finally able to play one. It's really a unique experience.

There's an emulator for it, but I've never tried it, as I never wanted my first go with this to be through emulation. Some things are fine to emulate, while others just don't work, due to not having the original hardware experience. Vector graphics are a perfect example of where emulation falls short from the original image, and just doesn't deliver.

Since this has spinning mirrors in it, I've heard once this is dropped, it's rendered useless, so that may have been a major issue when it was first released, and may explain why no one I knew never owned one. A child's toy should never be that fragile, but it makes for a cool display feature. It's really amazing to see what companies did back at this time, to deliver arcade experience, and while most failed, it's nice when something like this was made that works so well.

Acetronic MPU-1000

Despite the photo, it does actually have two controllers attached to the machine.

I had one of these as a kid. It ws a really neat machine. Most of the games had multiple versions on the cart. IIRC the "Olympics" game seen in the picture had 60 variants of Pong style games.

I only ever knew of one person with one. Which was OK as we both had half a dozen different carts that we would swap from time to time.
Was this, or something like it, in some of the GamesCom pictures from this year?  I saw something that seemed to resemble it and didn't know what it was so I asked someone else and they also couldn't tell.  I can look for the picture in a little while.

The Acetronic was released under a variety of names in various countries (eg Radifusion). It was also released in a variety of cases. I suspect that is the same machine, but in different clothing.

I remember bringing this to school. For some reason it always reminded me of the ship from Battle Beyond the Stars.  :)

For some odd reason I have strong memories of really hating battle beyond the stars when I was maybe 5 years old. Maybe I found it boring or something. There was a guy with red hair and glasses who was their boss. That device looks like a star wars ship for sure. I found an old tiger handheld space invaders game in my parents place. It's a red led screen and it still works perfectly.
