I think GPH should send free units to the guys at Penny Arcade just for publicity. Even if they hate the GP2X it will still get tons of publicity, even bad publicity is good publicity. They are very important to the gaming community at least here in the US. I think it's probably the best way to get publicity.

Publicity.

Thanx,
Stan

An interesting idea but one of the things that makes Penny arcade so attractive to gamers is that people feel they can trust their advice on games. If they say "This thing is garbage we dont recomend it" it could kill a lot of potential sales. On the other hand they could love it but they'd have to officially say "emulation bad!" every five minutes while talking about how many emulators it has which I'd suspect would send a mixed message.

I thought that also, but they mention emulation and people will look no matter what they say. They aren't in bed with Nintendo and Sony like they are microsoft, so I don't think they'll have to say 'emulation bad' if it doesn't emulate microsoft's stuff. Also, gamers are generally smarter people, I think, so they'll check it out and decide for themselves. Although I'm thinking of when I was young, now everyone plays games so I might be wrong. Eh, giving them one has it's ups and downs, GPH would have to decide. Some time they would have to give a unit away to an American news source or video game review site, I think Penny Arcade would probably get the most mileage.

Thanx,
Stan

Penny arcade isnt "in bed" with Microsoft, they just have good contacts. (not to mention it's in MS's interests to cozy up to people like them who are opinion leaders). As for "Emulation bad" I've seen them do it before, it's just that they usually have something else to focus on so it dosent seem as if they're completly against it. If we had a few finished games that and a few commercial games for them to look at they wouldn't have to spend any time on it.

penny arcade seems to be quite interested in emulation and homebrew on the psp. I bet if you send them a gp2x with a pair of emulators on it they'll be impressed.

lol they are quite on the pulse on gaming. I suspect sending them a free gp2x will be a bit of a waste as they will have already pre-ordered. I am expecting a witty strip involving tycho and gabe, about the free wrist strap and the use of the f**k any day now.

I think it's best to wait for some software to be developed before noticing reviewers that are not alrady hooked.

I'm probably all confused. I was under the impression that there was/is a delay while firmware sorted to avoid bad press. Then I saw review units going out(batteryless), and thought that was a bit of a contradiction.

IMO I think esp as competing devices are still selling getting it out there ASP is the best thing. The GP2X is (I think) about the new, not the is, esp as the PSP already does.

Although really I think it would be more fun to give one to Ken Silverman showing his build engine working on it, and could be better press than giving it to what clearly are fans of the PSP, and might not be as interested in a device sans bleeding edge commercial titles.

I'm clearly out of my depth when it comes to talking about marketing. lol

could you use some more abbreviations so i can understand even less of what you're trying to say, cyclops?

Its confusing I agree, but not because of abreviations.

1) I think GPX2 window of oppertunity is closing.

2) appealing to fanboys, may not be best marketing stratery unless they are your fanboys.

I don't know that there is any time limit for GPH to make it sell really, I bet the first wave will sell the second wave easy. I haven't read that Gave and Tycho have heard about the GP2X or even the GP32, maybe they didn't mention it. They do like the emulators/home-brew on the PSP though as Inopia pointed out. I think they hated the Ngage because humanity hated it, It had horrible graphics, small screen, and didn't really work as a phone, Nokia didn't do any market research in designing it.

Thanx,

The Sidetalkin' taco-phone N-gayge. Indeed t'was a crime against humanity. :p

The completly unfinished state that the Preview units were sent out in was probably to more accentuate the fact that it was an unfinished device, sort of an instant tardy pass.

You know I could swear I remember Penny arcade devaoting atleast a sentence to the GP32 but I just serached the archive and couldnt find anything. Well I suppose someone could just hit their forum and make mention of it and maybe they'll be enticed to mention a few words, But I suspect hey wouldnt say much about the emulation becaus the more you speak of it the more you risk hurting relations with the contacts in various companies, even when Tycho non-suggested you pass on the latest upgrade for your PSP he was a little unspecific as to why because we already know why.
