One of the things I've not been able to work out from the discussions and videos surrounding TV output is how the difference in resolution is handled.

Is the entire thing scaled down? (Resulting in a squished image at 800x480?)
It is plain cropped (Top left, center, etc)
Is it cropped+scaled (from the center)

Or is it configurable depending on what I need/want to do?
 
That is configurable from the commandline at the moment, no gui yet.
Not sure if it will be configurable in the tv-out gui when it ships, we will see.

Well... considering its probably composite or s-video.. your TV should scale the image to full size. The GP2x using S-video scales to the top & bottom of my 32" LCD 720P set, as with most modern TVs, they take the analog source & automatically scale to the TVs edges.
