Launch PanDebian.

Open a PanDebian terminal.

Do "su" to become root.

You may have to uninstall openoffice.org and openoffice.org-common if previously installed.

Edit (with nano or any editor) /etc/apt/sources.list

add this line :

Code:
deb http://backports.debian.org/debian-backports squeeze-backports main

Save and quit, then type :

Code:
apt-get update

And :

Code:
apt-get install -t squeeze-backports libreoffice

You may also :

Code:
apt-get install -t squeeze-backports libreoffice-gtk

Finally, support for your language (ie. french):

Code:
apt-get install -t squeeze-backports libreoffice-l10n-fr

To set the language, go in tools -> options -> language settings.

You'll see it's pretty fast to load. A must-have.

Enjoy.

Nice, installing right now... 450mb wtf. ;)

Edit: Installed it and it runs very fast and useable. I didn't expect this from such a big program.

Thanks for the tutorial.

I finally got to try this but I've got a problem: When doingapt-get install -t squeeze-backports libreofficeI get the following error:

"Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of incoming.

The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:

I installed Pandebian, the first option in the list, I think Lenny.Any ideas what's wrong?

You probably have to replace all "squeeze" with "lenny" in the commands i listed.

Hm when I do that it says:

"E: Couldn't find package libreoffice"

So I guess I should reinstall PanDebian with Squeeze instead... ^^

All, also the one in the adding of the packagesource.

True, but too late. ^^ I'm bad enough as in I never delete anything; if I'd start that with every 2 GB distro loopfile I create I think it would end badly. :)

It's still unpacking (libgnome2-common right now...) and I can't wait to try libreoffice. Hopefully it can cope with my extraordinarily complex and strange excel sheets (which get gnumeric to crash just by opening them). :)

Hope 2G will be enough, Libre Office is huge.

They made awesome progress since they forked OO.

Finally it's done! It's really fast, takes about ten seconds to start and a couple to load a complicated spreadsheet. Navigates really fast once it's opened and has no problem with my files. Highly recommended! :)

Of the 2 GB I gave to PanDebian I've still got 557 MB free after installing libre-office. Now I only need to figure out what exactly libre-office-gtk does and if I need to install that one too. ^^

Thanks for all the help!

Nice !

Dunno for libre-office-gtk too. I followed antoher tutorial myself ;^).

Overall, how fully-usable and stable is PanDebian? ie: wifi and everything working, and its solid and stable? I've not tried in a long time :)

jeff

Dunno for wifi 'cause i've installed in a loopback.

Yes it's stable. I do VOIP in it, using twinkle :^).

I also installed in a loopback; in there Wifi works, as that is how I did apt-get. :)

Hi,

today, when trying to install libreoffice, I have the exact same problem (after following the tutorial).

Some days ago I have installed PanDebian and Libreoffice the exact same way (at east I think so), and it worked!

Now it doesn't. I HAVE installed squeeze, not lenny.

Any ideas?

Thanks a lot,

Daniel

Dunno. There's probably a -force switch with apt-get.

The debian version should be visible in /etc/debian or something like that.

Well, it's Debian version 6.0.3 (/etc/debian_version). This is Squeeze.

apt-get has a -f switch, which "attempts to correct a system with broken dependencies in place". This sounds promising, but didn't help.

I tried to find a potential problem source by entering the URL added to the sources.list:

http://backports.deb...ebian-backports

I can find libreoffice packages when diving further into

http://backports.deb...br/libreoffice/

Does apt-get find this location with the line added to sources.list

Code:
deb http://backports.debian.org/debian-backports squeeze-backports main

?

Also, which architecture abbreviation does it look for? I thought Pandora needs "armv7", which is not available in that place.... there's "armel" though, but also not for all packages, e.g. not for libreoffice_base_core...

I don't know how apt-get works exactly, so I cannot make too much use of the collected information, but maybe you can help me?

Thanks a lot,

Daniel
