Totally Confused: Strange Problem...

Hi all...

I got my BLU from Lik Sang yesterday and had some very strage trouble with it which I can´t solve even after extensive reading in this forum and several FAQs. At first, let me tell you about my setup an what I did:

I have a BLU, a 128MB Fuji SMC (clearly stated as 3.3 Volt in the docs) and two Computers running Windows XP Professional SP1.

I installed the Software from the enclosed CD, connected the GP32 and it instantly worked. I did a format of the SMC using the Connection Tool, which was successful, too. I then started to copy some emulators over to the card, along with some disk-images and Games (GPEngine, Frodo and Castaway). Copy worked flawlessly, as it seemed.

I disconnected the GP32, found my emulators and started GPEngine first. Here the trouble started. The GP32 did an instant Reset after starting GPEngine. I tried a while, then turned to Castaway. It started the inital Screen, but when starting the emulation itself, the GP32 did reset. Same on Frodo: Start... Reset.

I checked Batteries etc., did several tests. Then I deleted all the files (no formatting) and copied them over again. GPengine started now. Castaway this time showed me at least the blue disk icon before resetting, Frodo was still completely unstartable.

I tried several times, including changing the PC, with slightly different results and then came to the conclusion that my GP32 must be defective.

I did a last test and used a Card Writer on my PC to copy files over. Result: Everything worked now. I did this several times: When files are copied with the GP32-Tool, nothing works (while I do never see any Copy-Errors). When using the Card-Writer, everything seems to be ok.

I had the Idea that my GP32 might be defective in a way than simply makes writing to the card not working properly. I tried to confirm by using GPEngine to save a running Game to a file. Result: I can´t. I do not get an error, GPEngine shows (for a short time) a testbox, that it is saving the gamestate, but I do never find the save later on.

So really my GP32 can´t write to the Card? I tried Castaway, which is able to save a snapshot too. Worked instantly. I did this several times (dozens). Worked flawlessly.
So, the Console can very well write to the Card.

Ok, all that leads to a lot of questions for me:

1. Is the Software of the BLU buggy and cannot be used to copy files to a SMC?
2. Is GPEngine buggy, too, and does not let you save your Gamestate?

If Yes: I will be able to live with a Card-Reader and a buggy GPEngine.

If No:

3. What can cause a behaviour as described above?

I would be really happy if somebody could answer any of these questions

:(

Update:

Ok, surfed a little further and found an answer to the Question: Is GPEngine buggy regarding it´s Save-Option?

Well, it is not buggy but simply not using the already build-in function.

So my problem seems to be the connection PCLink-GP32 only.

After thinking of the bunch of software which comes as an Installer, I´m not willing to live with a Card-Reader, I think...

gpengine savestates don't work :)
a new release was expected but i think our nephews will see it, if everything goes right.

Maybe copy GPDrive to your card and use it instead (with Windows XP lauch GPDrive on the gp32 then connect the usb cord and it will be treated as a windows drive, but make sure to press select to end when your done ;) ) It seems a better option for people using Windows XP anyways.

Don't worry about that, these files can be extracted using GP32 Package Extractor. After extracting you can copy them to your SMC like regular files.

Yeah - I only used the USB cable to register my GP.
A card reader is MUCH faster, more convient, makes no transfer errors.
And it's cheap.

No way I would ever try PC-Link...

Package Extractor... Cool. That solves the last of my problems. I will come back to PC-Link for formatting only now.

Thanks a lot :D
