This Console Look Very Sexy!

Looks decent. 4-buttons instead of a joypad? Why? that kind of knocks it down a notch. A 4" widescreen will give a slightly smaller game screen for emulated systems than the 3.5" 4:3 GP2X screen. Li-ion battery means expensive and limited replacements. Windows means a relatively high overhead, and means it will be shunned by the linux geeks. It is probably a bit pricey. Other than that it looks good. The market is getting crowded.

GPH needs to get their shit together. Where is the next FW upgrade? Chop Chop.

i was wondering the same thing concerning the 4-directional buttons. wouldn't that be sort of cumbersome to use on 3D games?

I like the aesthetics of the iRiver. I just wonder how well it will play games, and if it will be anywhere near as open ended as the GP2X. I like the compact design, though.

Likely they're thinking in WASD terms where you don't need to press diagnoals in every game... and they arn't probably expecting or logically dont care enough about Emulators (even though they'll still get them).

As for the Recharagable battery; while it's definatly not a reason to discount the GP2X or even GP32 it's not always a bad thing. If it has a long ranging battery life like the 10 hours of a GBA SP you have plenty of slack to recharge (even the PSP has been pretty safe for me at 5-6 hours), if you're looking at a 2 hour battery life like I've experienced on the GP2X then yeah it's cool to have something you can replace at any time or if it's a low power device (generally not 3D in my opinion) with a low price point it seems more appropriate to me (I'd expect a 3D system to carry some fancy rechargeable propriatary battery since they already spluged on the 3D).

I think you shouldn't be worried about such a thing though. iRiver is known for their high-quality products. It's just that I doubt it'll be available outside Korea. Like that other thing that looks quite awesome, the GMP-M6.

I'm also hoping this G10 will have Ogg Vorbis support (just like iRiver's latest products). Don't do go against me, you and I both know Ogg Vorbis rules. ;)

Hey fella you know the gp2x runs ogg right? B)

And i find that mp3 come out the same quality as ogg and filesize when i convert em ;P

Well all rechargeables die sooner or later. When they are propriatary where do you get it? Special order then wait. What if that model is changed or discontinued when you need a replacement? Brick.

Its based on Windows Mobile... enough said!

It specs and documentation will be about as open as a gay steel capped boot wearing nazi general at honaka!!!!

Windows = closed source = crap
Linux = open source = homebrew = happy timbob !!!

Only out for 2 months and already I am seeing more activity on the GP2X than I saw the PSP ever getting.

On a side note: OQO Rocks! 1GHz x86 machine in the palm of my hand!

... my 2.56 cents ;)

that thing looks very sexy,
I hope it have PDA functions than I'll be in :)

IF it's windows mobile.. isn't it open to homebrew?

those PocketPC runs windows mobile and ther's plentyof 3rd party software..

Well, I'm all for open source, but just because it's windows doesn't mean everything on it will be closed source. But the way MS is locking down everything they do in the mobile arena I wouldn't be surprised. This is something I would definitely wait and not pre-order.

Thanx,
Stan

geniv: not what I meant... the level of development is automatically cut in half because the coders have to work around windows overhead etc. Of course some linux enthusiast is going to port linux to it... which is kool.... but I like the idea of a company who supports its recreational developers... e.g. Game Park Holdings!

sexy looking device that does EXACTLY what it says on the box

GP2X rules might not be the sexiest or have all those bells and whistles but at least you OWN it totally well nearly but you know what i mean

Please, guys.

Specs mean nothing, that thing could have 15 minutes of battery life for all the shit we don't know.

The buttons could be screwy, the screen could be easily scratched, and all that jazz.

And even when the specs do come out - need I remind you what the advertised specs on the GP2X were? 6 hours of video life on two AAs? :D

It's all a speculation game here right now, personally, I'm glad I have my GP2X. It has its flaws(that will be fixed over time) but it's customizable, we know it already has a community, and it'll probably continue to grow long after this new thing is gone.

Yeah, I do. It's one of the main reasons why I bought it. But I want OGG Vorbis for everything that comes with a music player now. Because my HDD contains 6.5gb of MP3s. I once got very bored and converted everything[/g] to OGG. It seems none of them lost quality (and I think some reduced?) but the results were 2.8gb. Now... believe me, I think I can use those 3.7gb that I can save. But before I can do that, I need a really good, small, compatible MP3 player with OGG support. :)

And on what site does it say it's getting a worldwide launch? Link please.

The babble below is from a thread I made in the Official Australian PlayStation forums.

I have been following the handheld market with a close eye and much interest for 4 years now, with more enthusiasm, than most peeps on these boards.
This is mainly due to the fact that, I am not really interested in what SONY or particularly, in what Nintendo are doing with their hand helds, as I know they cannot lose when it comes to portable gaming.
Anyway, since last year, I have followed the life of Game Park's GP2X and I have also been waiting for details (more specs, hardware and software pics) to emerge for 2 other portable consoles (Game Park Holding's XGP and Tiger Telematics's Gizmondo Widescreen).
But the problem with the 2 mentioned above is the possibility of them becoming Vapor Ware, (most likely?).
So if you were in the know how, you would be aware that the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) will be opening in less than two days held in Las Vegas, NV, USA.
The CES is an electronics and videogames convention, probably as big and popular as E3 (Electronics Entertainment Expo).
Anyway, enough of the babbling on, I'd like to quickly bring you to the point and the point is about portable consoles or handheld systems, as some would commonly call it.
At this years CES, (unveiled this week) iRiver Korea (the makers of portable players, pmp's, pmc’s, iPod wannabees) will unveil the G10 Portable Videogame system.
Here are some (very little actually) of the specification;

Windows Mobile 5
262k color screen
4 and 8GB HDD models of storage space inside
3D acceleration
4-inch (.3 inches smaller than PSP's screen) WVGA screen
800 x 480 resolution
260,000 on screen colours
Bluetooth (Please don't quote me on this)
Wi-Fi (Please don't quote me on this)
Uses SD cards for official games (up to 4 gig)? (Please don't quote me on this)
Windows Media Player 10? (Please don't quote me on this)
It will probably be offered by the company Wibro.

I am genuinely excited about this little wonder, which I believe will most likely be touch screen, but my only concern is that it'll be open source and it will only be good for homebrew/emulated gaming, because of the lack of analog sticks and its flat d-pad.
But what is nice about this Personal Media Player Videogame system in one is the built in 4 or 8gig HDD and the slide screen for protection (no need for screen protectors, lol).

It does look sexy but at the same time looks kind of uncomfortable to hold.

I believe people are free in developing for Windows Mobile. I think. At least, the Microsoft site says so. But I also believe I read you can only develope using Visual Basic. Don't think you can get far with that though.

it has a touch screen and can be used as a normal Pocket PC that mean i can use other software like Dictionaries, GPS...

As for emulators, Pocket PC/ Windows Mobile has lots, including MAME, SNES, NES and PSX....It's definitely got big potential.

Hey let take a look at this pictures and you will think the same thing as mine...wait for the Iriver!

You forgot the price actually. A thing like that with 8gb, Windows Mobile and such wouldn't cost less than a GP2X. Infact, I think it'll cost more than a normal PDA.
