This Console Look Very Sexy!

it has a touch screen and can be used as a normal Pocket PC that mean i can use other software like Dictionaries, GPS...

As for emulators, Pocket PC/ Windows Mobile has lots, including MAME, SNES, NES and PSX....It's definitely got big potential.

Hey let take a look at this pictures and you will think the same thing as mine...wait for the Iriver!

Uh, sure, the other has some obscure racing game but professional photography, and the other has homebrewn emulator, and the pic is taken with cheap digicamera (no offence to the camera)? And you make up your mind based on this?

And as said, it will cost a fortune, and even though I think the 2X's thumbstick could be improved, that iriver "pad" looks worse.

And, why wait, and settle for either one, when you can get both? B)

Yeah, but let's not forget you don't just pay for entertainment just like the GP2X. You also pay for the technology. They have to place in next-gen stuff into a tiny little gadget. Also the reason why the PSP was so damn expensive. When a new method for the same technology excists, the older one lowers in price. It's a funny way of thinking for the handheld market.

Haha you can't compare an obvious photoshop to a real photo, unless you are stupid.

The GP2X will have more emulators if that is all you care about btw.

I don't know where you guys get the touchscreen bit from but from the photos and the specs there is NO touchscreen. If you look at the pic the screen and frame is all one piece and glossy black like a PSP, no touchscreen. Touchscreens have a dull matte finish and have a separate frame material because of the way they are made.

Those controls look awful, separate buttons instead of a pad? Talk about dead zone, it is like the grand canyon compared to the GP2X stick. Try a diagonal by pressing two buttons at once, yuk. People complain about the PSP divided pad and even that is far better than this. Too much functionality was given up just for a slick look. I will take useability over looks. Maybe it will change for the final version but as it is now, meh.

Price tag on this will be painful - at least twice the GP2X. Plus it's McWindows which doesn't exactly encourage open development. I'd guess that the battery life must be atrocious with such a large screen.

Also, since you can't get one yet, you may as well wait for the GPXtC which will be even better, with 20TB flash drive, cinema size laser projection screen and psychic control system.

Add it to the heap. This G10 system is doomed like its brethern the Gizmodo and Nokia nGage, ect.

Too costly, for consumers, for developers, for gamers as well.

Nice idea, but everyone knows the cheap stuff sells.

true don't a 4 or 8 gig microdrive cost alone cost close to $200?

ad that to the unit and I think the overall cost will not be lower than $400.

can't make an impulse buy at $400 unless it is killer in terms of emus.

and based on the dpad it's gonna suck. try doing a dragon punch in street fighter with that dpad..

and in the case of Windows Mobile games and emulator on that thing I don't think any will be good unless the coder optimize it specifically for the G10..

most emulator/games written for the platform pretty much is design for 320x240 portriat and some support landscape.

with the 800x480 resolution of the G10 you might just see the game/emu running on a small section of the screen.

sure there are alot of gamming enable PMP comming but until I see solid community support I won't buy

It is really not "such a large screen" the GP2X is 3.5" at 4:3 and this is 4" 16:9. it is only .5" larger across the diagonal (which end up larger the more rectangular). if you calculate screen area you will find them to be very close in screen area.

Imagine for illustrative purposes:

You have a 1" x 4" rectangle and a 2" x 2" square. They have the exact same area but the diagonal measure is much larger on the 1" x 4" shape at 4 1/8" diag vs 2.8" diag for the 2" x 2". Is the 1" x 4" rectangle larger because the diagonal measure is so much more? No it is the same. You have to be careful it is a trick.

With such a small unit and a hard drive motor spinning, backlit screen, CPU etc. and small space for battery I can't imagine the battery life being all that great. Plus HDD? nice for large storage but they wear out and aren't that robust. I will take the all solid state GP2X for now.

DaveC - You are right, the area of the screen is pretty much the same - but it probably still has increased power requirements because of the high pixel count. I too think that the hard disk is a foolish choice, given the massive drops in the price of flash ram recently.

Overall a real "wow" gadget for looks, but I think the niche that it fits is too small, since it overlaps with PSP too much and doesn't really exceed it in any useful way, while presumably costing much more. I don't see it as a reason to put off a GP2X purchase, especially given that it will be some time before you can buy one.

Anyway my GP2X is almost in my grasp, i'm not inclined to traitor to Windows or spend any more money on gaming for a while :)

Personally I think that the screen is OLED(small, thin, cheap to make screen)(Organic Light Emitting Diodes). By the way, it is 2006, technology experts predict that memory will become far cheaper...Also it is only a prototype so I hope they fix the buttons and add an actual dpad.

P.S. I seriously hope it has a touchscreen. *goes and plays with DS* :p

Well all rechargeables die sooner or later. When they are propriatary where do you get it? Special order then wait. What if that model is changed or discontinued when you need a replacement? Brick.

good point!

Hey fella you know the gp2x runs ogg right? B)

And i find that mp3 come out the same quality as ogg and filesize when i convert em ;P

but ogg is open source

I thought I was the only person who has thought there's a huuuuuuge professional work on this photos. from the person who took the photo, to the cam used and the post-photo-production stuff.

cheers!

btw, as a live in a third world country and I dont have enought money to buy a pmp or 2 new handhelds, i will stuck with GP2x!
