Is the Pandora going to be like the Wii where they always run out of stock and only the "lucky" ones who end up on the site at the right time will get them?

They're all sold out right now. They will not be retailed in stores, only online, so no, not really.
I just want to know will there be plenty to pre order for the next batch, or will I need to get there ASAP on the website before its too late?

It depends on how many they order for the second batch. Third batch on, I'm sure you'll be able to get some, but I can't guarantee that that'll be the case for the second batch.

second batch may be more furious than the first. at that point, pandoras will have much coverage and many people will have seen the actual thing, becoming much more interested. of course, the manufactured amount may be much, MUCH higher.

Except, unlike the Wii, the Pandora is worth your money :p

Joking aside, I think if you stay on top of things and attempt to order during the first few days of the second batch's preorder time you should be able to get one. Just check frequently during December.

I camped outside of a Target for my Wii on launch date, and I camped the site and forums for my Pandora on launch date. Both experiences were equally fun, because although with the Wii I was able to play it as soon as I got home after my purchase, with the Pandora, I know that I am one of 3800 people worldwide who were able to make the purchase, and that I will get to play it for months before any people from the other batches get theirs. ^_^

Considering the current economic situation, continuing production based solely on pre-orders may be the most fiscally prudent thing for Pandora sales... :|

Considering it took a few days to sell out....and that we all knew well in advance when it was going to start selling....no, absolutely not.

You should consider the early-adopters-factor. The demand will be much higher in the second batch, I suppose. People want to see, if it really isn't varporware, and there are no major flaws. Those forthcoming unboxing videos will tease the cautious quite a bit ;)

I am fairly certain that the second batch won't be sold out as fast as the first one. For one thing everybody on the forum was really excited because they felt involved and everyone wanted to get their hands on a first batch pandora. And then you need to consider that there might be a larger number produced in the next run as they now have enough proof that there is demand for the little bugger and people will actually buy them. So don't panic, I am sure you'll get one.

Two things to keep in mind:

1. The original preorders were announced beforehand and a newsletter was sent out a few days before (if you signed up for it on the site), so it's not like the preorder for the second batch is going to pass you by.
2. After an overwhelming response in the first few hours, the dev crew extended preorders, not to a certain number of units, but to a certain number of days. What this meant is that everyone who placed an order in the preorder window got one.

So, presumably, everyone who wanted to buy one and had the funds to do so, got one. It's not like the wii, where there are plenty of people with cash in hand, and distributors don't have any to sell. I don't expect things to be radically different for the second batch. My advice? Keep watching the forums, save up your cash, and sign up for the newsletter at openpandora.org.

Well, I can't agree more, but with a the homebrew channel, my wii now worth the money (counting game and accessory, near 1000$....) I invest into it :)

Remember that Nintendo have an established practise of withholding stock to create artificial demand. Its gone on since the eighties and retailers hate it.

I'm going to need some serious sources on this, because Nintendo is on record as saying they were pumping out Wii's as fast as possible, and even got extra factories set up to increase production. (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18348840/)
And despite the increased stock, it was still flying off the shelves, except now they were selling even more per month. They didn't need to create artificial demand, and it doesn't make any sense to withhold a product that people are clamoring to give you money for.
There is absolutely no evidence that I could find to support the claim that Nintendo was intentionally withholding stock ever on any system, current or previous. The only posts I can find that even suggest such are blogs, forum posts, and comments on news sites; in other words, rumor, speculation, and unfounded conspiracy theories.

Well, pretty much every previous console they made, they did it. You seem to think that this idea is crazy. Nobody pulled this out of their ass. Do you hear stories about Sony doing it with the PS3?

On another note- a friend of mine bought a Wii on launch day and just hated on the PS3 for months. During a dry release period last year he finally bought a PS3 to supplement, but now his Wii is there strictly for virtual console games. Why? Nintendo is being dumb and releasing 1st party shovelware. Most of the Sony hate on the internet that was around during the PS3 launch is now on Nintendo's lap, so it comes as no surprise that these kind of comments are spreading. With the crap they're pushing out to shelves, I'd be surprised if they were not artificially creating demand. Either way, it wont last long.
