The Apple III had a fault where when it overheated (which was often) the boards would shift out of their sockets from expansion/contraction as the machine was turned on/off. Apple Tech support would instruct you to pick up a few feet and drop it on a flat surface to push the boards back into place. The Mac IIsi (mine!) had a fault where the connectors to the speakers were not soldered but just physically touched. When they got dirty/corroded, if you didn't want to clean them, the best way to restore sound from the internal speaker when it went silent was to just smack the side of the machine.
