Well, finally got one. Most everything seems to work pretty well, stick is OK, firmware was upgraded when I received it. Installed some apps and played around a bit. Very nice.

One big problem - the headphone jack just doesn't work. I've read the countless threads regarding the jack, but haven't seen one about it not working at all (unless it fell in of course)

It just seems like the headphones never make proper contact. I've tried about ten sets which all work fine on other devices, and which have small enough jacks that they are not hindered by the housing on the GP2X. No Luck. :(

So I'm guessing my only alternative is to send the damn thing back?

looks like it....

This is proabably a silly sugesstion : turn up the volume?

Are you trying it on a game or emulator?

sometimes they dont have sound or have sound disabled

Yeah, I've blasted the volume out of those tiny little speakers, but nothing from the jack. If I screw around with the headphone plug a bit, occasionally I'll get the built in speakers to turn off, or occasionally get one channel of headphone sound briefly.

I've used both emulators and the MP3 player as far as sound goes.

This really sucks. It's going to cost a fortune to send back from the US

Yeah, I got it from them. It would be great if they covered the shipping, but I've very rarely had a company do that for defective products.

It's a shame because otherwise the unit is great. And I even got the screen protector on without totally screwing it up.

My headphones wouldn't get a good contact at first, had to really jab em in there a few times, now it's not quite so hard to do and it seems to work.

My headphone jack wouldn't work if I jammed the headphones all the way in. With them slightly out, however, I got full stereo sound.

Yeah this isn't a case of force or finesse. I could push hard enough to crack the case in two, or move it slowly in and out the whole length of the plug and it still doesn't matter. I even trimmed a headphone plug adapter so that the plug would go deeper into the system than it normally would. Same crap - no sound.

Looks like your headphone jack is FUBAR (always wanted to use that word here) and you need get your unit replaced.

I couldn't be bothered to send mine back so i opened it up and there was one connection that wasn't quite soldered properly.I was getting sound through the headphones and speakers at the same time. Now I have sorted a proper connection the speakers cut out when I plug the headphones in.
