There have been over 800 downloads for GP2x hardware SDL. How many times has this been released for updates and bugfixes? If we divide 800 by the number of releases that will give us an idea of how many people are developing with it. From that we can take a guess at how many works are in progress. Even if there have been 8 releases (surely less) that is 100 projects. It has been up there for two months, so, are we about to be showered with a bunch of releases ?
If we look at the number of downloads for DrMdx that should give an idea of the active user base. If there was only one release (?) that makes it about 5,500 of us actively using the gp2x. Even if there are 800 devs that is only 14% of the user base devving for it. (Why so few for an open source device? )
After the initial deluge of releases, are we maybe forgetting the amount of time and work that goes into programming and expecting too much ?
It is also interesting to note that homebrew stuff is not really that popular. The most downloaded arcade game is pang. This has had more than one release and has only been downloaded 1,200 times. If the same people downloaded the second release as downloaded the first only about 600 people checked it out. If only 11% of us can be bothered to check out the efforts of our devs I wonder why they bother.
Of course I have no idea why the scene is so quiet. It could be we are about to be hit with a load of stuff developed over the past two months or it could be the devs have got bored already and are looking for a new challenge.
Or it maybe you are just too impatient. This is a lot of work done in people's spare time.
