i spoke to magus on AIM and he has no idea what else to do. after trying to play super mario RPG, the third try to get the game working really screwed me over. I attempted to boot it up, and now the card isnt readable in the gamepark. magus told me to back everything up and reformat, but i cant cuz the GP32 doesnt read it and i cant use file manager. no XP either cuz it'll fuck it up worse.

The card reader reads it fine, as does my computer. just the gp32 wont read it. I dont know what to do. any hep would be great ;)

SMCs can act funny sometimes I've had cards that refuse to read, I take them out and put them away, come back a week later and put them in the system and they work again. Maybe its dust on a contact or maybe there was an error during a write session.

This is the best reason tohave a card reader handy and back-up all your cards when you get a chance.

Hopefully there's a recovery option in your GPs firmware of choice.

Alright, I'll end this firmware confusion... Here's a picture of the euro firmware(at least I THINK it's euro... either way, it's the 2nd one that they put on the GP32, and it's the one that all BLU+s have by default) Based on what you said you saw when you turned the GP32 on, it sounds like that's what you have. here's a picture for confirmation.

Should help you format it under XP. You probally only need to use mkdosfs.exe ( detailed at the bottom )

cheers
btw, i havent the faintest clue how to use this program. i downloaded the link at the bottom, and now the app wont run. it's on my desktop.

You need to run it with the detailed parameters from the Windows XP command prompt. Just running it won't do anything ;)

Have a read through this I guess. I'm afraid both of these tools require you to use the command line and know how to navigate round it. Unless you can format it using your gpmanager/usb cable or know someone with windows 2000 or below its the only way to get it working in XP afaik. ( although some people have reported it working fine in XP YMMV )

My gp32 wouldnt read my SMC after I formated in Win XP.

I found that if I formated it under Win 98 or Win ME it worked again, do you have a PC with Win 98/ME?

I was lucky our old laptop has it...

Steve.

school starts in 2 weeks and my library computers have win 2000 on them. My mother's office has 2000 on it i think. If im able to get to a win 200 computer, what do I do to format it??

EDIT:: it randomly worked. so im good now. nice

You just format it like you would with a floppy disk, right click on the drive that is your SMC (Usually called removeable drive) in "My Computer" and choose the option to format.

Good Luck...

there would have been a problem with that idea considering im using windows XP. But for some reason out of nowhere the file manager picked up the smc and read it, so i was able to reformat it and get it working again. All I can say is DONT DOWNLOAD SUPER MARIO RPG!!!! ;) ;)

lol, yeah, don't download it becuase it doesn't work, but I don't think that's what messed up your smart media card, cuz I never had that problem when I tried playing it on my GP32.

Can anyone tell me what i should re-format my SMC with? Fat/ Fat 16 ? Also when i try and format it in windows it's telling me that it can't coz it's non writable? My GP32 reads it but i can't transfer any more programs to it for the time being?
Can Anyone Help?

Cheers.

Have you put the little silver write protect sticker on the SMC?
