SID of the day :)

So what are your thoughts :D

Time for a new SID btw....

I like that kind of sound mainly for fast melodies, like the "boss battles" themes... anyway I only played 1 game (Giana Sisters) for C64, and I don't even remember it's music... so I'm not so competent about what I can expect.

Music that sticks to the roots of their instruments are better for me... for example Freestyler is cool as a challenge, but mainly I prefere the original one :D while it will be difficult for me to appreciate an old tune remade with a full set of instruments.

(I still like more the "speaker" music of Dune 2, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Monkey Island... etc... over their AdLib/SoundBlaster counterparts)

In anticipation for more Pyra news :)

I heard this SID first at one of the X party's and loved it instantly. I found out later, by accident, that it's a remake of Genesis by Justice. It played in some spotify playlist while I was doing chores in the house :) I was like... hey... o_O

I looked them up on youtube, this is what it's derived from.

currently listening...
*martin galway's - miami vice theme*
the game itself was pretty bad (never managed to play it), but this long and slowly flangeing tune with lots of cool overdriven filtering....
love it! :)

today for me: the last ninja, as i just read that Ben Daglish passed away. :'(

so,
R.I.P. Ben!
and thanks for those wonderful tunes!
<3

Thanks for the tribute @rSl
I've played so many games with tunes from Ben Daglish in them. It's fair to say he's been a big part of my childhood.
His SID instruments weren't the best but his tunes are memorable for sure!
A couple that stand out for me:

Auf wiedersehen monty http://hvsc.perff.dk/MUSICIANS/H/Hubbard_Rob/Auf_Wiedersehen_Monty.sid (By Rob Hubbard and Ben Daglish together)

Biggles http://hvsc.perff.dk/MUSICIANS/D/Daglish_Ben/Biggles.sid

Challenge of the gobots http://hvsc.perff.dk/MUSICIANS/D/Daglish_Ben/Challenge_of_the_Gobots_on_the_Moebius_Strip.sid

Deflektor http://hvsc.perff.dk/MUSICIANS/D/Daglish_Ben/Deflektor.sid

Krakout 3 http://hvsc.perff.dk/MUSICIANS/D/Daglish_Ben/Krakout.sid (I prefer tune 3)

Trap http://hvsc.perff.dk/MUSICIANS/D/Daglish_Ben/Trap.sid

W.E.M.U.S.I.C.1 http://hvsc.perff.dk/MUSICIANS/D/Daglish_Ben/W_E_M_U_S_I_C_1.sid

May the good man rest in peace. His tunes will forever bring me back to the 80's

Thanks for the tribute @rSl

the video is done by 'Last Gamer', just wanted to share as he describes my feelings.

... he's been a big part of my childhood.

exactly the same for me.

my two favourites (besides last ninja and monty) are gauntlet and they stole a million, because i had these games back in the day.

@FBnilAlso, I didn't know VLC plays SIDs Thanks :)

Yeah, I just found that out too, because Foobar2000 (the only player I used for SIDs) is not able to use URLs directly, so VLC was the most obvious choice to try out...

In the plugins I see a "C64 sid demuxer", but I didn't added it so I suppose it's there by default

@Eight Bit Yeah, it works now. Maybe problems with the server (have not restarted FF at my side). Good memories.
I looked up how to convert my floppies back to D64's... looks like I will need to buy a diskdrive for that (C128D got stolen out of my mom's storage room... :( sad)
