I figured, why not! I run into pearls of music and just want to share.

Having the High Voltage SID Collection installed is nice if you want to join in on the SID sharing fun but it's not necessary :D

On the go I use Audacious on my Pandora for playing SIDS but there's many other players that support them as well.
Another good option to play them is by installing chipmachine.pnd from here The terminal version is less pretty but more pleasant to use. It searches through some online databases and finds a lot of stuff so it could be tricky to find the right tune if you're looking for something particular.

On my windows laptop I use Sidplay2/w win32 version which is a very small GUI version for sidplay2.

At my awesome setup at home I use my Pandora to connect to my C64 to let it play SIDS through the real thing without the screen on. I have the UltimateUII cartridge in the C64 connected to my router and connect to it using a telnet connection with Putty. I feel so nerdy, I love it!

The SID chip still amazes me today, or, what the composers squeeze out of it. It's still the same hardware, 3 oscillators and one filter.
I wanted to start off with some real cool modern chip torturing tune but figured I'd better build up a little so the first tune is going to be one a little more easy going.
I chose a classic SID, I can have this on for 20 minutes easy before skipping to the next one in my list.

Music is the main reason I want a C64.

For convenient HVSC browsing I can really recommend the solution I mentioned above. Another great C64 stand alone software solution is sidplay64, combined with an SD2IEC or similar. But again here the REU enabled 1541U2 version rules them all.
All roads lead to the 1541U2 ;)

For you a present

I already like what I'm hearing. Skipping around randomly through the different sids and they all sound pretty good. It'll give me something to listen to while backing up the classical cd's I got from Goodwill today :)

I used deadbeef to listen to these, although it seems you have to do something extra to make it recognise the length of the tracks. I put the last track on repeat at first because it sounded like it might be meant to loop, seeming to have an end and a restart at about 30 seconds from the end, but after leaving it to repeat while browsing the HVSC web site my machine locked up - mouse still moved and music played, but I couldn't alt tab away, nor switch to a different vt, nor bring up my terminal shortcut, or bring up the panel with my start menu on. I couldn't debug it or kill any bad processes without a keyboard or apparently functional mouse, so I had to force shutdown the machine, for the first time in a number of years.

Maybe I'll try installing audacious if that works for you. In any case, thanks for the music!

Yes, you'd need the song length database for the player to skip to the next track automatically. Or force a skip after 3 minutes or so. I just let them loop until I'm fed up and skip it myself :)
I found deadbeef to be a bit dodgy every now and then too. I tried most other players but always revert back to audacious as it just works. I do put it's interface to GTK and don't use the winamp skin.
[doublepost=1505468605,1505466792][/doublepost]SID's like these are not for the faint of heart (or SID player) :D

Pah... bad music... I like the Ghost n goblins remix by Drax ... now that is Funky!

how about a Ghostbusters theme poll? There are several versions in the rar file... and some are fantastic! (compared to the original theme). Which means that maybe they ran out of space due to the digitized "GhostBusters", and could not produce better sounds...

my favs:

A Upbeat, snappy
B Maybe a bit too full, but nailed the synth
C Great bass and inflections, glissando's and attention to detail
D The original? Sounds flakey after hearing the others...

So you don't like Ghouls'n'Ghosts, fair enough. ;)
I like it's sound design and atmosphere which suit the game very well.

I do like your Ghostbusters selection but the basic-ness of the original tune is imprinted in my mind by playing that darn game so often so I have to choose for D as my favourite, followed by C, B and then A. But mainly because of nostalgia. C is the better conversion I think.

Speaking of conversions...

<shameless plug>
You can listen to all this sid tunes using ChipMachine directly on the Pandora (use the terminal version, it's more lightweight then the GLES2 one), just type the name of the song and choose the right one...

I've been slacking a couple of days. Busy busy. :)

Some nice new SID for you all, another one of my SID heroes.

Is there a way to make chip machine show SIDS only?

I don't think so. You can just search (with any term on the title and/or author) and then select the song that is of SID format (brownish color).

I didn't want to setup a C64 emu only to find about what you were speaking about...

luckily foobar2000 has a sid decoder :D
