Sensible Soccer...

hi,

ok, I am getting some weird results when I am trying to get sensible soccer to work.

First I insert disk 1 into floppy a, and press the start button. This loads the game, firstly displaying the 'hacking' screen, (a demo of the group that hacked the game to enable cheats) sop I press the space bar three times to get past the hacking screens and onto the games.

Next, the Sensible soccer logo appears, and then the game credits roll. So I press the joystick a button and the game prompts to insert disk 2. So I open the castaway sub menu, eject floppy a, go back into the sub menu and insert disk 2 into drive a. I then press the select button to return to the game.

So I eventually get the 'select language' screen, but if I press any joy stick buttons or any direction on the d-pad, the screen flashes rainbow colours (in the background), and the game stop working. From this point whenever I press a joystick button (or d-pad), the rainbow colours appear, and animate in the background for a couple seconds before stopping.

Anyone help me out?

I've inserted new batteries, and the same problem occurs.

Thanks,

Simon

Axxording to the ST compatibility list on Skeezix's site, someone has, but he didn't mention which version

I spotted that too, "Pete Donaldson" apparently got it to work. i'm sceptical as I'm the biggest fan of this game and have searched high and low for a working version. The rainbow lines are the result of some unsupported emulation feature. :(

If you have any news, or you are Pete Donaldson, please post here. :)

ok guys ive got it going " international edition version 1.2"
im running tos102
and a single disk version
this is how i did it
load up tos102
then select game disk to a:
when it asks to create a ram disk just press y "for yes"
let it load up and when it gets to language select screen
dont do anything apart from
turn your gp32 to cursor mode and leave it .
it will start a demo game
thats as far as i can get it if u turn joystick mode on it locks up
so its down to the joystick mode thats giving it problems
im upping the disk image and tos just in case people need it
to
http://daffyduck.250free.com/
ive also upped 3 more versons for people to have a go at

maybe this will help skeezix found out what the prob is with sensi soccer.

ill report back later on some of the other images i have of this game

We all ready knew all that!

Between me and stickofjoy I think we've covered just about every version and unfortunately it just isn't playable. :(

Hullo!

Really....really sorry everyone....

someone just told me at b3ta.com that someone was asking for me here....and I've just realised I've made a stupid error. I was obviously quite confused, since I entered that sensi was working, but I was refering to the Snes version. Really sorry. I really don't know why I entered that it worked on the Atari, when it doesn't. I obviously didn't have either Atari or snes in my brain, I just had sensi.

Man, that game was the greatest.

<Really> sorry!

I'll head over to the site to remove it. Ooops!

Amen. No harm done, let's all cross our fingers that it works soon!

(ps: i'm ignoring the fact that the SNES version is far from perfect. no sound. choppy framerate. and it was a bad conversion from the beginning! ;) )

Yeah, i hope too. I tried it for the first time on the demo mode last night....It works so damn fast, too! Faster taht the snes! It's taunting us all, laughing at us all...! Agh!

I'd certainly pay that jeff fella £10 for a castaway version that ran it!

Actually, is their an address I can contribute to on his site...I couldn't find one...

This be's an idea, and nothing more... but it might be worth experimenting with to get the Joystick/Crash games to work...

Skeezix said a while ago that (and I'm paraphrasing since I cbf to find the original post)

The Keyboard, when you press a button, instantly sends a down-up signal at the same time, although it hould really send a down - continue emulation - up signal. If you want to go into the ball in turrican, try holding down on the joystick first as it is the only mode where buttons are held

Possibly try turning off Joystick button heldness and see what happens...

Its just a thought, but if the joysytick buttons are dealt with in a different way from everything else, then that would be somethig that singles it out.

That said, if it does get fixed by changing joysticks so they're in effectively quickpress mode, then it'd be nice to have a toggel between... holding down buttons can be useful from time to time...

Also, bear in mind the thought came to me just as I was going to sleep, so could just be the demented dreamings of a madman :)

Buttons are handled the same everywhere; all buttons are down and then instantly up. The mouse and the joystick dont' work like buttons though.. the system polls them, and they're down or somewhere respectively. The reference above was likely referrign to that.. the joystick is a constant left or right or thelike. Fire is always just down/up, as are the keyboard buttons et al.

I will be adding a "queue" though.. so instead of buttons goign down/up, they will go down, then a few moments later they'll come up. This woudl also allow me to build a shift, alt, etc handler easier (keys that stay down).

lol, just noticed you had finally got yerself an avatar :)

Futurama is great, i saw the very first one longggg after they actually started and was hooked right off, went out and bought series 1 on DVD :D (got Series 2 for Xmas off my girlfriend  )

but, yeah, back to the topic... i didnt understand a word you said there Jeff (about the buttons), but does it mean you MAY have an idea how to fix these Sensi games or am i getting excited over nothing? :)

I thought he was responding to my slight misapprehension of how the Joystick buttons worked. On the other hand, it might do the trick anyway...

BTW: on a similar note to joystick input crashing it might come such things as when is the joystick actually "plugged in"? Is it always sending info to the emulated port, or is it effectively only there when Joystick input is selected... could that have anything to do with it? I doubt it, but still... same sort of things if asking which port its "plugged" into... could that have any effect?

Another thing too is megalomania (also by Sensi), now this game uses the mouse right, but when the title screen comes up you cant get past it... which is fair enough, dodgy image i have maybe, but the second you hit the JOYSTICK, you get the usual flashing screen effects and its all but crashed completely.

Like i said, Megalomania is a mouse game, doenst use joystick at all (as far as i remember anyway  ), kinda weird only sensi games flake out on using it (WizKid too)
