A more useful post would we one that at least included a URL to where you noticed this, rather than forcing people to search the web for what you have read.

But anyway, since no one on the dev team has the specs, I'd say probably not. We don't even know if the electrical specifications are the same.

In other words, exactly the same response as poster in older threads, should you have searched...

Kudos to that response. Also, I don't see why so many people are obsessed with SDXC, it has the same theoretical maximum capacity as SDHC.

technically it does not, as SDHC has the address space caped, and to make bigger cards and conform to spec they will have to use SDXC.

SDHC cards have a maximum of 32 Gb of data.
SDXC cards have a maximum of 2 TB of data.

Obviously increasing the 64 gb limitation of the pandora to a totally insane 4 TB is a big plus. The pandora won't have official support for SDXC but something will probably be hacked.

Perhaps the confusion is that the SDHC cards are somewhat artificially limited, that is, SDHC could support a lot more, but at the time, SD consortium settled for 32.

Though, quite honestly, even 32 gb are not that cheap, and considering the prices of new tecnology, it will take some time before an 32 gb SDHC costs the same as an 32 gb SDXC.

The theoretical maximum for both SDHC and SDXC is 2 TB. The SD assotiation set a limit at 32GB for SDHC, but that doesn't mean that we won't get higher. First of all, they set the limit pretty low, so they might consider raising it. Second, a lot of companies just won't listen to the SD association and make higher-capacity cards anyways. The official limit for SD cards was 2 GB, but you saw plenty of 4GB cards made by companies who didn't give a shit what the SD association said.

But just as there are barely any 4 gb non sdhc card, there will be just as few greater than 32 gb. That it why it could be useful to support SDXC cards.

Also falling out of the standard exposes you to incompatibilities, like some 4 gb card being unreadable by some readers.

That situation was a bit different. The real, physical limit with the old SD spec was 4GB, i.e. just one turn up from the official 2GB. And going to 4GB also introduced another problem (see below)

Going from 2GB to 4GB also meant going from signed integers to unsigned integers in some places, which made the whole 4GB hack unreliable (because it _was_ just a hack).

With SDHC it's very different. Everything is in place for going all the way to 2TB. All the signal lines are there, it is only a matter of the driver in the operating system actually making use of all the 22 address lines instead of using just the subset they're currently using. The Linux kernel driver, for example, looks at all 22 and would handle a 2TB SDHC out of the box, if one arrived tomorrow.

I doubt there'll be any SDHC cards in that range though, it would probably be more practical to go to SDXC then (IIRC there are performance issues coming into play too). But there could very well be 64GB and 128GB SDHC cards.

Interesting, I didn't knew that. But then, if the differences are so minimal (if any as you put it) implementing SDXC should be trivial, shouldn't it?

SDXC != SDHC with more address lines in use.. unfortunately. Everybody expected the consortium to simply announce that vendors were now free to start making cards using more of the free address lines, but instead they have apparently also changed the electrics.

I think the electronics change is optional, as in, if you want to use the new speed offered by SDXC, then you may have to change your design. However, if you wish to restrict your communications to the 50Mhz supported by SDHC, then I don't see that as a problem, as SDHC cards are quite happy to run in the Khz range.

But of course, thats just all guesswork until someone gets the docs or tries a card...

Seriously though, what are the realistic size shxc will be realeased in. I find it hard to think there would be an actual 2terrabytes sd card being made when the consumer 3.5" hdd barely reach similar size. And how much would it cost anyway. $10,000?

The way storage seems to be going, 2TB SD_C cards are just a matter of time.

By then, hard drives will probably be several terabytes by default.
It's a strange thought, considering how we always seem to be running into new limits with them. Perhaps hard drives will be flash by then, rather than magnetic.
