I have just found out that my O2 Ice mobile phone cable works on the gp2x. But will it be safe to use ?

Its a usb end like the ipod plugs and it says on the base:
Output- 5.0v (700mA)
Also will this charge my battery whilst inside the console ?
Thanks !

That will either fry or damage your GP2X.

Output voltage should be 3.3V Max (3V is fine however and more easily found)
Current should be between 1A and 3A.

Oh should have mentioned it connects into the tv-out port.
It says 0.3A.... I think i'll leave it alone though and stick to batteries instead.

--- i tried it and it doesnt switch off on the side when its plugged in !!!

Thats because you are backfeeding the supply rails and therefore bypassing the power switch and voltage regulators.

I'm surprised you have not killed your gp2x by sending voltages up pins that were designed for outputs from the gp2x.

this is far from the needed specs for the GP2x... 3.3v (center positive) and 2a

I wouldn't even try it.
and there is no way to charge batteries inside the GP2x =(

I thought the 2X was center negative (which I'm trying to remember and drill into my head :) )

I'm probs missunderstanding your post though :D
