Raspberry Pi - 25 Dollar PC on a USB stick

Sigh i missed it, I saw it was up but I couldn't order it because I have a rule about not making purchases at night because I do not always make the best decisions at night.

wat
Sounds like a pretty good rule. Goes hand in hand with "don't agree to do anything while drunk you wouldn't do while sober", "don't go shopping while hungry", "something something in anger..."

I'm kinda fuzzy on that last one.

Don't look back in anger... I heard you say... SOOOOOOO Sally can wave, but she knows it's too late, I'm walking on by.

Wait... what?

Much fun with Lego has been had this afternoon... Bring on the pre-orders! :D

doh, I need time for lego...

there's no time at home with my childrens and there's almost no lego at work. I just have a "lego" hub with a zombie minifig running after a baywatch minifig...

Another update for Aussies: The local arm of RS will be selling them for $50.40. Wat.

... WAT!?

This whole licensed manufacturing nonsense is nothing but a nuisance for the RPI... I was hoping for a give-one-get-one type deal at launch, and a bit more of a modest, one page, pay-with-paypal-if-you-like sort of start off.

Dealing with these dodgy third party resellers, who I've barely heard of and never had reason to use, doesn't really instil confidence. And I dislike the idea that they may be profiteering from the RPI chairty/foundation's popularity.

element14/farnell have already started advertising shitty bundles on their website in an effort to offload some tat onto RPI buyers. If you don't already have the accessories... the RPI probably isn't for you.

Seriously... a wireless mouse, a hideous USB hub, and a shitty TWO (count them, two) gigabyte SD card are amongst the abominations pictured in Farnell's "bundle" "deals".

It's all fucking despicable, and I'd much rather buy the PI at RaspberryPi.com.

Oh, I also forgot this little gem:

By providing your contact details you are agreeing for your details to be used for marketing purposes by companies within the Premier Farnell Group.

Scumbags. The lot of them. Raping the Pi for everything it's worth!

I've just gotten mine pre-ordered. :)

I'll send the Raspberry Pi Foundation a donation to cover the cost of an RPi once they get their donations link up - that was always what I planned to do.

The current issue of Linux Format has an 'actual size!' picture of one on the cover, and a pretty thorough article with useful info on it inside. Would defnitely clue in anyone not entirely sure what it's all about, and you could probably use the cover as a template for your Lego modelling!

I've decided on my case after spotting this thing in my travels:

mAnzel.jpg

It's meant for art/craft use, and is also the type of thing you might see dead bugs mounted in. I'll mount the Pi inside and extend the essential ports to the rear panel with these bits: http://i.imgur.com/KXPcd.png

(I couldn't find a single HDMI lead of the kind I wanted, so I've got a silly array of adapters to do the job.)

The idea is that it will stand upright near my TV for use as a media front end, with all cables exiting at the rear. When I want it on the bench, I can just drop the rear plate out of the box and it'll lay flat next to my laptop.

Total spend including box has been about $35AUD.

That looks pretty cool. You should paint it red :D

Box-frame! Nice idea! :D

Will there be any room for a fake raspberry, to go in there alongside the board? :p

Very nice~ And, ass Jourdy has already mentioned, you should paint it red or design a pattern like the ones shown below.
