Python & Pygame (http://python.org & http://www.pygame.org) look to be two good candidates for porting to the GP2X. Getting these opens up a small pile of games, and of course the one I’m really after which is Pydance. Anybody want to volunteer? Or does somebody have a reason why it’s not practical?

Sure i`ll do that between sorting out world peace and finding a non blow up woman i dont have to pay that`ll get nasty with me.

(sorry ina sarcastic mood today :D )

In all seriousness if you want it and the source is available do it yourself, if you cant code its a good oportunity to learn

Fixed link: http://www.pygame.org

Source code is available.

"Pygame is a set of Python modules designed for writing games. It is written on top of the excellent SDL library. This allows you to create fully featured games and multimedia programs in the python language. Pygame is highly portable and runs on nearly every platform and operating system. "

Sounds interesting. Whether anyone wants to port it or not, time will tell.

What we probably should do is what I did at ZodiacGamer way back when, and have a thread just for people to post links to interesting games/apps with source code available.

Hey Timeslip Thanks for the edit.. Spares me from coming up with some asstastic of my own...

So back on the gp32 the idea of porting Python & Pygame was floated but was shot down due it being impractical mostly due to Python’s reliance on stdio and the fact that it being an interpreted language would mean it would run pretty slow. (Psyco was mentioned in the linked thread, but that won’t fly since it’s only for x86 processors). I don’t think the speed of python is *that* bad, and stdio is a non-issue now that we’re in Linux. My ability to deal with source is limited to running a make script and then googling if something goes wrong. I’m certainly willing to give it a go, but I’d thought I’d ask to see if anybody more knowledgeable then me sees a reason why it won’t work.

I could swear we already had a thread like that. must have dropped off the page with al this stuff lately about DRM.

(here it is: http://www.gp32x.de/board/index.php?showtopic=20001)

And yeah I agree it should have been pinned a long time ago.

I mean to say a *pinned* thread. :)

But I'm not a mod here so I can't do it. Maybe I should ask Hando to give me mod privs so I can do stuff like that. But I'm already all over the place...
