Hey guys,
was on a vaccation for some weeks and had the pyra with me.
worked quite well, but on the last day it seems to died.

Sitting in the plane, booting the Pyra (remember that I´ve seen the usuall bootinfoscreen scrolling) and then next moment screen was dark....
hmmmm, maybe i pressed to long or did something else .... strange
reboot, now only backlight and keyboard lights up and LEDs shows rainbow..... "hmmm was it always red in the beginning....."
removed batt and checked everything what I was able to do on a plane :-D

now at home I powered it again and thought that maybe bootflag got lost. but tried to ssh my pyra, before setting up a SD.
and oh wonder, pyra is working as normal, only no screen is showing.

So guys, as you know, I´m not familiar with the magic you use.
how do I get any info why it died? Lets hope its not a loose cable, as backlight is working and responding to change brightness.
did apt-get update/upgrade now, and received no changes. only pyra-meta-extra is hold back, but this was before as well.

:p&|a: <--- here is a screenshot, only with black screen

all the best,
Inqui

Dit you remove the SD Cards whyle booting? Sometimes, it’s search for a boot bit on them, so i always push them out a bit whyle booting..

Maybe X is busted. That's less common these days on my x86 machines but it used to be a thing. Perhaps it's more common on the Pyra still though. Try pressing ctrl+alt+2, which normally opens up a text login. It didn't on the Pandora, but the Pyra running more standard linux might well.

I think that's unlikely to be the problem if the backlight controls work and there's a ssh server running!
My pandora has failed to start X once or twice after an unclean shutdown. Rebooting fixes it though.

There's no harm in having a look to see if the display cable is loose. Are you happy wielding a screwdriver?

Maybe have a look at the logs ?
try (from ssh)
Bash:
sudo more /var/log/Xorg.0.log
sudo tail -300 /var/log/syslog
journalctl

etc.

My server only runs X when I'm logged in locally, yet I can still ssh into it when I'm running it headless. I don't know how the backlight is controlled in software personally so I couldn't say whether that's part of X. The backlight needs to be on to run in text mode also, so maybe it's not.

The display cable could be loose, but I'd be surprised that it's still getting enough juice to power the backlight but not maintaining data integrity. Worth checking though.

System is still running on internal memory, and no, did nothing when it happend

in the last code I´ve seen some x-session-manager errors, but not that this will tell me anything what is going wrong.

And I´ve no worries to open the Pyra to check the cable, but I hope to avoid this, as last time when I see something on the screen, it was booting and standing on a table. So I thing during bootprocess something died on software side

Can you create a fresh bootable (mirco)SD.
To check if its a software problem?

I see nothing suspicious.
AFAIR, the X log error armsoc_dri.so isn't problematic, at least on Slackware arm.

You could use "ps aux" to see if X and Mate are running.

Yes, the logs don't indicate an error to me. Is X still running do you think? As I said before, if ctrl+alt+F2 gets you to a login prompt in text mode, you could run 'ps -ef|grep Xorg' to tell you (after logging in).

Edit: Or you could run that over ssh if that's more comfortable to you.

Edit2: Seems I'm parroting Linux-SWAT. Oh well.

ps aux seems to run mate
and that was a good idea with a bootable SD
I created one, and its doing something with it, LEDs behave totally different and it´s not pingable in my network. So I guess it booted from the card and want some initialisation.

unfortunatly I choosed the xx_install image and cant test anymore as I lost my ssh channel

I will open the brick now and check the ribbon

thanks for your help and I will keep you updated. Maybe not today.

Yes, I don't see the cause in the logs either :(
It seems it's too late now anyway.
Good luck. Let's hope you see what it is when you open your Pyra.

Sorry for the issue. As you're from Germany, it would also be possible to ship it to me :)

So, this sounds like the flat ribbon cable has come off. We try to attach it very firmly, but sometimes it still comes off.
Whenever I had the issue, it was the plug in the Display board, not on the mainboard.

Do the Pyra Logo LEDs still work?

had it open, display board and lower part as well.
released all ribbons and placed them in again.

so far no change, but I will set up a bootable SD and mybe check the ribbons tomorrow again.
Pyra Logo is showing rainbow, both LEDs

ps aux seems to run mate
and that was a good idea with a bootable SD
I created one, and its doing something with it, LEDs behave totally different and it´s not pingable in my network. So I guess it booted from the card and want some initialisation.

unfortunatly I choosed the xx_install image and cant test anymore as I lost my ssh channel

I will open the brick now and check the ribbon

thanks for your help and I will keep you updated. Maybe not today.
If you burned an image to the card and marked it bootable but that image was bad, it could stop at any stage before being actually loggable in to, either over ssh or locally. If I had to hazard a guess and the image was bad then I'd guess it stopped at finding anything valid to boot, so won't have even loaded a kernel. This isn't an ideal solution, I'm sure you agree, but luckily the solution is easy; remove the SD card.

I just had a brief look into the Xorg.0.log. Some things look strange to me, e.g.:
Code:
[ 21.663] (EE) Screen 1 deleted because of no matching config section.
[ 21.663] (II) UnloadModule: "omap5"

There are some other warnings (WW), e.g.:
Code:
[ 21.604] (WW) Falling back to old probe method for omap5
[ 21.604] (WW) WARNING: Option DRICard ignored (BusID or DriverName are specified)

Once again?
Code:
[ 21.629] (WW) WARNING: Option DRICard ignored (BusID or DriverName are specified)

Ok, one step back.
Code:
[ 21.604] (WW) WARNING: Option DRICard ignored (BusID or DriverName are specified)

Device /dev/dri/card0 -> Screen:0
Device /dev/dri/card0 -> Screen:1
Why's that?

@Inqui
Do you still have ssh access?
Maybe cross check the content of ls /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d
and cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-pyra-driver.conf
As the last link contains a possible hint, maybe check
ls /dev/dri/card*

@ all
Maybe someone with a Pyra can cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log and compare it with the one in the spoiler tag above.

Edit: If I copy-paste these commands directly into the terminal, some of them don't work. I don't know why, maybe some character stuff. So you probably need to type them manually.

I don't have a Pyra.

I was trying to help by inspecting the "Spoiler: Xorg.0.log" posted above:

Sorry for the spamming

@Inqui In case it's "just" Xorg not working, maybe you're able to...
ctrl+alt+F2
... or e.g. ctrl+alt+F4 to switch to the console. Well, actually ctrl+alt+fn+2 or ctrl+alt+fn+4, obviously. Have you tried this?

In case I've missed something in the above posts, let me know.
