Pyra Developers.

As the pyra is running Debian and its repository is so big, Is it necessary to port stuff specifically to the Pyra? Or is the porting more like packaging into DBP?

optimized ports will not be in the debian repo anyway...
The armhf repository isn't as "massive" as the x86 repository, many popular third party repositories seem to only stick to x86 as well. Still it's a ton better than the angstrom repository.

I'm already planning on getting a Pyra ASAP, and wait for Godot to be ported over to start tinkering with 3D games.

Meanwhile, I'm planning things in my head like LOD levels, where to put normal maps and such. I'll wait for the release to start learning 3D programming. Mostly done simple stuff before, in HTML, CSS, PHP, Java and a bit of JS and AS3. I may have forgotten some.

I'm working on an original game on a custom engine that targets Pandora and Pyra (port already confirmed working at GamesCom, yey) among a few other systems. Release in any form is still far away though.

I also may or may not assist with writing GUIs for Pyra-specific OS scripts and settings. Still have to get on the IRC and actually talk with the dev-team if I can do it and if my preferred toolset works out for the default distribution, though. Will do that when I have the time to code something up, which isn't exactly right now, but soonish.

My plan so far is to provide builds of Godot once the GLES driver stuff is taken care of and maybe support some of those who want to make their Godot projects work well on the Pyra.

Depending on spare time I might even start a project on my own ...

Edit: so far it looks like we got nearly 3 developers per user ... :D

I'm not very good at programming, but I've already ported some things to the Pandora, I will probably port them to the Pyra as well. At least some of them.

Would anyone be interested in a tip calculator? It could even be put in the OS image. Its only requirement is libgfortran.

Aside from this, who amongst us regular pre-orderers is a developer or wishes to develop for the Pyra

As I didn't preoder a Pyra and will most probably not buy one of the "first batch", in fact I can't answer your question. :p

However. I will port all my games and continue complaining, that nobody plays them. :>

I'll port my games. I'm too lazy to put them on the repo but they're on my website.

Edit: I expect at least one more Ludum Dare will pass before I buy a Pyra so that game will be written with both Pandora and Pyra in mind.

Plenty of plans, the problem is finding the time to work on them :)

The pandora was a failure for me. I suffered too many hardware issues and couldn't be bothered to fix them anymore.

This is why I quit developing for the Pandora. Originally I had planned to develop a whole series of configuration tools like the nub configurator.

Hopefully the Pyra will turn out to be more reliable. If so, then I'll probably pick up some of those old plans again.

I'm currently a bit occupied with FLIF, but I plan to make stuff for the Pyra. Probably not exclusively for Pyra, but at least tweaked for Pyra. E.g. I might want to re-implement Pandora System Info to become a more general System Info thing, the same with Pandora Image Viewer and maybe some of the games I made for the Pandora (Microbes, NubNub, NanoLemmings).

Who knows, maybe at some point I'll make a web browser with native FLIF support, tweaked for devices with a small screen and two nubs ;)

When i get my pyra I might be interested in learning game development as a hobby on the side. nothing to crazy maybe some rpg type games or the like.

Which devs are getting the prototype units anyway? Will at least one of them be working on Gentoo support?

No. And why? I mean: ED has 10 prototypes to gift. So every developer should address at least 10% of the community with his work. How many people want to use Gentoo? Most people in this board would install Windows if they could...

To your first question: This is not sure yet. I would guess notaz (if he still needs some and doesn't have a dev board anyway), ptitseb, sebt3 and Lunixbochs. I doubt anybody posting in this thread will get one, at least not because (s)he posted here.

I already did basic ports of some Linux distributions on the devboards (EVM and IGEP) using a modified hns makesd script. Now I will need a "real" Pyra to implement controls, screen parameters etc.

Pyra-OS

Debian

Slackware-14.1 : mini and full image
Slackware-current : mini and full image

Slackware-armhf : old unsupported build
Gentoo : stage 3 archive
Archlinux
Opensuse : quite nice
Kali : not working
Fedora-mini
Fedora-xfce : graphically slow
