Looks like ill be sending my Pandora back for repairs to the LCD cable sadly.. :( Contact openpandorasales@gmail guys?

LOL. I love that way of calling it. The purple tint of death :)

That happened to me also the second day after I received it. The current one hasn't developed that problem so far, although it do has the nub problem.

Regarding to your question, yes, contact them by email and ask them if this is the best date for you to send it. Because maybe now they're out of replacements and they'll have you waiting. So better ask. I didn't care about that in my case because I couldn't use it, since the problem was more like "the backlight-turns-off-when-opened-more-than-45º-and-also-have-a-purple tint-of-death". But I'm not gonna send this one yet since many more people remain in the queue, the assembly line progresses slowly, and I can perfectly use it with one nub less.

Ill shoot em an email about it. Blargh. At least mine isnt totally inoperable as a result. Praying it doesnt get worse, i plan on waiting before sending my Pandora on its voyage back.

In the meantime i better prepare my ipod for all the new music ive been to lazy to sync up to it. My Pandora is awesome as a Chiptune/general MP3 player thanks to audacious =)

This isn't a big job at all for us to fix, it's 2 mins and does not require us to have any extra parts in stock. It's just a direct swap of a part (and it should not happen again once it's fixed).

Ah, thanks for letting me know craig. I did send an email just pending a reply. Not looking forward to sending it back though, i hardly let the pandora out of my sight let alone send it halfway across the world

If that's the case the how come my original unit was not fixed, and instead a replacement unit sent?

I have just started to see very slight flickering in purple. Not sure if it is really getting worse, or if I have only just noticed it.

Pleng: are you saying Craig is lying? Maybe they found it necessary for you to have a new Pandora for other reasons. Aren't you happy you've got your Pandora?

Hope this doesn't happen to me... How do I know if mine is one of the ones that can be affected? It's a second hand one nubber, the serial number ends with 692, but there aren't that many Pandoras yet are there?
Bosbeetle: Once you get it, your Pandora is doomed to fail in the near future, so the name is pretty appropriate. If the LCD cable is getting crushed, it'll only get more crushed over time. Of course, a cable is cheap to replace, and can be done quickly, but it's not easy, so you can't fix it yourself. Just having to send it in for repair and be Pandora-less for more than a day would be horrible :(

So it should be easy for one that is knowledgeable in hardware fixing? I have a friend that fixes notebooks, he has all the tools for it, if I receive an LCD cable, would he be able to do it safelly (without having any problem with the warranty) with proper instructions?

Well it does require a new LCD cable and a new hinge if ED@IRC is to be believed. Also (I dont know how) but the old hinge needs to be taken out (without damaging the case) (in which process it will break). Other than that, yeah its propably simple to fix when somebody has the right stuff for it....

EDIT: grammar...

For those of you asking, the purple does get worse. At least it did for me. First it only flickered purple when opening and closing, then it was always purple at certain angles, then at all angles, then it was not just purple but lost some colors completely and developed other glitches like bars moving up and down the screen, then it would white-out (similar to the screen you get when you hold the panda button+slider) at certain angles, then all angles but occasionally I could still open it past the locked position and I could see the screen again, finally it went black at most angles and white-out in the others. It is now completely unusable so it had to go back.

I'm at the "purple at all angles" stage now.

Waiting till september to RMA it: I hope it stays usable till then!

Just remember: Please do contact your distributor and tell them what's wrong (even if you don't want to ship it back immediately).
Also tell them, when you got your Pandora (if you can remember), so we can make sure that after we found the fix, no more units die.

This all helps improving stuff in the future. :)
Thanks!
