hello, is there anyone out there who can suggest me on which map software that is suitable for GPS in panduron

Hello and welcome to the boards.

I don't know what panduron is, so I'll assume you mean the Pandora ;p

[edit]Upon rereading that, I think it's a location. I have no idea about map quality there[/edit]

This thread mentions modrana and TangoGPS. I haven't tried any of them so I can't comment on the experience itself.

TangoGPS has been successfully installed, but requires a little bit of extra work.

I've been trying to get Navit to work, but haven't had time to work out the last few kinks. It'd also require much of the same setup that TangoGPS does anyway, to get the GPS working.

You need an external GPS, is the only catch. That's what those extra steps are doing: setting up the Pandora to actually use a GPS device.

Hopefully this answers your questions :)

modRana provides navigation/routing features also. It uses Google Directions for online routing. Good thing is that you can do the routing while you are online, download the map tiles along your route and then go off without the need of staying connected to net. You can choose from various map tile providers - Yahoo, Google, Open Street Map, Virtual Earth and others few.

If you install 'espeak' it can do quite usable voice navigation in multiple languages too (if you don't mind robo voice). But don't expect it to pronounce local non-english street names properly, although I can say it is still usable.
