Problem With Dvd Drive

until recently i had nigh on never used my dvd drive for watching dvds, i would just burn em and play games, only problems i have run into have been issues with nero following the d/l of SP2.

i got the adam and joe best of DVD the other day and proceeded to sit down for some comic entertainment, all was going well until about 1/3ish of the way through the dvd it stopped. my laptop froze up. nothing worked. i tried a number of different software players and all stopped at the exact same point, all accomopanied by a nasty whirring noise and a full lock up.

i carefully inspected the dvd and found no scratches in sight, i tested the dvd on my hardware player, it was fine all the way, tested it on my main pc, also fine.

i have tried a number of other dvds, they all work fine.

i cannot access anything after the freeze point, it seems my dvd drive is just rejecting the disk after that point.

anyone know why the fuck this would happen? customer services were no help!

Like the general says, it just happens sometimes. It aslo happens with CD-ROMS, but is more of an issue with DVD cos of the data density...

i thought it would be that

ah well, looks like my day spent ripping the video files wasn't wasted then!

cheers guys
