Port Requests

One thing there isn't a lot of for the Pandora are TD games. I found a few open source games and was hoping someone could port a couple of these.

http://otd.sourceforge.net/ - Open Tower Defense

http://asd-td.com/ - not much in the graphics dept. but it's a bit different than most TD games, the creatures don't follow a fixed path

http://www.freewebs.com/pacdefence/ - Pacman inspired TD game

http://sourceforge.net/projects/pytowerdefense/ - TD game written in Python

http://code.google.com/p/omfgzombie/ - couldn't find much info on this on other that it's a zombie TD

http://ndswtd.wordpress.com/ - Warcraft Tower Defense
Well, there is microbes that is a great TD designed for (and on) the Pandora.

I would really like to see Streamtuner2 available on the P:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/streamtuner2/

It uses GTK and Python and some other Python/GTK-related stuff. It remains the best stream browser out there and unlike many is not tightly coupled with a player. I would kick in on a bounty for this and Streamripper. An interested dev can assess the project and let me know what would be a fair bounty.

I have tried all of the available repo alternatives. Not even close. If a dev gets excited about this, I will also pay a bounty for porting to OS X and Android.
Bump. I get it that folks are excited about games, but how about some feedback on this one.

NOTHING will beat SqDef. Its sad that Alex quits from gp32x/op community.

Hi,

I think Dust Racing 2D would be a nice addition to our games library :)

Dust Racing (Dustrac) is a tile-based, cross-platform 2D racing game written in Qt (C++) and OpenGL. Dust Racing comes with a Qt-based level editor for easy level creation. A custom engine, MiniCore, is used for physics modeling. Dust Racing 2D is inspired by Super Cars and Slicks’n Slide.

Minimum system requirements:

Runtime: OpenGL 2.1*, Qt4
Compile: CMake, GCC, Qt4

* N.B: there are some references to GLES in the code, so I guess porting from GL 2.1 to GLES is not required. IIRC, the game already runs on Android.

Bye, Magic Sam

I love to quote myself :D

Alex will be back in 2014, so keep calm and prepare for things to come :D

What's the license of SqDef? I cannot seem to find the code and I do not have a GP2X or Wiz but it sure looks like a nice game judging from the screenshots.

Its not opensourced.

And its clearly BEST TD game for any platform. I hope Alex will not release this as OpenSource, coz it should be commercial game, and he really should get some money on this. I will buy it if Alex will sell it  :D

I have solved all dependancies (I think so at least), but I still have a segfault. I think there are some hardcoded path left (I fixed a few already).

Yep, looks like an easy compile. At least the ccmake didn't complain, and GLES build seems to compile with no error...

I also have a zeq2lite compiled and running, but I'm not sure it's worth a package in it's current state:

  • No Single Player game... I haven't found any "bot" to play against.
  • The Texture Precision bug of the driver shows up on certain level, and I haven't found a way to fix it.
  • I simplify the rendering, removing the outline for now (I can probably add it, but not sure it's worth the time)
  • The game slow down when there is explosions. The Quake 3 VM (which is interpreted on ARM) takes 30% or more of CPU. Not sure on how to optimize (and building a ARM VM Bytcode blabla is huge work).
  • I haven't package the game, but it's probably a more than 1Gb PND again.

I always have been a big SqDef fan, but I have to disagree. Microbes is IMO more original, adjustable, unlockable, has more interesting variables and is plainly better - and not only because of the licence ;) .

The only thing I currently like more about SqDef is the unlocking and medal features. It definitely is a very nice game though, and there is room for more TD games.

On topic: I'd love to see Mania Drive ported.

BTW. I was really surprised when indie dev behind vectorTD just ripped the idea of SqDef [graphics is very simiar, mechanics] and released it on PSP, where it was a big commercial success, thats why i think Alex should release it here commercially and it should be released on iphone/android as well.

It would be good to bundle sqdef with ginge in a PND, if it's that good, until we can get a proper port.

Might theoretically need Alex's permission to do it.

This article is from April 8 2007

SqDef Released: July 9th 2007

http://www.alxm.org/games/sqdef.html

If there was any copying going on, then the original appears to be Vector TD. They all copied the basics from the Warcraft original though, and I don't see any problem using ideas from other games.

Sqdef already runs on Pandora, its great through GINGE
Thanks for pointing this out - I completely forgot about that option!

I tried it out, and it's a nice game. I like how enemies that reach the destination take away a life and re-appear at the starting point (sometimes a boss can make a few round trips that way, and take out more than just one life). I also like the bridges.

Other than those two features, I don't think it really has anything that Microbes doesn't also have though. And Microbes has quite a lot of features that SqDef doesn't have: non-fixed enemy tracks (imo a TD game with only fixed tracks is too limited), different tower modes and adjustable fire areas, aggressive enemies that destroy towers, smart enemies that avoid getting hurt by taking different routes, multiple start and endpoints, a wave editor, and so on.

So commander-beef, when you said:

what exactly did you mean by "clearly the best TD game for any platform"? I'm not saying it's not a great TD game, but why do you say it is "clearly the best", and in particular, better than my game?

I feel so ignored right now. -_-

Oops! I must have missed that - I had already found the GP2X and Wiz versions myself, so when I started reading your post I must have thought "nice to put the links here but I already found it", and instead of reading further I ignored you. Sorry!!
