Pandora - Obsolete?

I'm starting to see what the people on Engadget are talking about when they call these forums needlessly hostile and uninviting...

I can't blame people for complaining about people being told off for something like that, but some people posting on endgadget are begrudged ex-preorderers who complained about how many hitches there have been with getting the device finished, and how "fanboys" constantly look past them. I don't feel like having reasonable expectations for an independent device counts as fanboyism...

My definition of a fanboy is someone that has unrelenting support for something/someone in spite of(though not necessarily in ignorance of) it/their shortcomings/failings.

I think everyone who still is on the forum would count as fanboys then by that definition, if you're here you're still probably supporting the pandora in some form despite the fact it's several years late.

And no system is perfect, may it be console handheld os or technology, but I guess the key word is unrelenting right?

Yes. It's significant. Just supporting something, but at the ready to show its flaws, does not a fanboy make.

Not addressing flaws a product has, or even not believing it has flaws at all doesn't make a person a fanboy, since these are simple matters of preference. It's when you don't accept these preferemces as subjective taste and feel the need to argue the product's alleged superiority with other people that you're a fanboy. IMO, anyway.

I think most of the people here understand they're part of a niche and are buying something that just happens to meet their particular tastes. Unfortunately, a lot of people come off as overly defensive, and don't take criticism very well, quick to snap back with "you just don't get the point", "stick with your precious PSP then", or even "get out."

It's a common misconception that marijuana is legal in the Netherlands, when in fact it is not. The laws regulating its possession and distribution are rarely if ever enforced. You could possibly make an argument that's its legal by attrition, but I think you still need to note the fact that its still technically illegal to poses and sell.

I think you mean never enforced. Just never. You can smoke weed next to a cop and they do nothing.

Selling is illegal, unless you have a permission.

Like coffeeshops!

In addition, you can keep less than five plants at home. They won't do anything about that either.

Yes Australia is perfect with all it's video game censorship and TV censorship. Let's all move to Australia so we can play Grand Theft Auto 4 but not Left 4 Dead 2 because you kill humans in that game.
Don't forget their booby law! If you don't have big boobs, you can't be in porn!

I now have a really disturbed picture of what male Australian porn stars must look like.

Your coffee clarification post (the first one - the only one that should have been needed IMHO) was most enlightening and appreciated, however. Both for the 96 degree ruling and the approximate size of the payout. However, I suspect the "Craigish" version to be more...satisfactory, as a story. Much more fun to have 1/3 of the data to be scandalised by than to have the whole truth and shrug "eh, that kinda makes sense".

Offtopic, I know, but:

Keeping less than five plants is not legal (you didn't say that, but I would just like to clarify). They (the cops) can take anything away from you, at any given time. Having marijuana plants is not legal. The government just "sees it through the fingers", like we say that here in The Netherlands. If you give the plants away to the cops by own free will, when they stand in front of your door, they can't arrest you nor give you a fine. If you don't give them away freely, they can. If you used any lighting or growing materials (which must be proved), you can get a fee or even be arrested and or jailed. However, something like that doesn't happen very often. Lots of people have plants in their gardens, and they only get in trouble when the neighbors are complaining about the smell or something.

However, here in my neighborhood there were lots of illegal plantations with hundreds/thousands of plants. When you get caught with such large quantities, you WILL get a fee and/or be jailed. And since we have this new law, they can collect the cash at your door when they come to destroy your plantation. If you can't pay up that very second, you will be taken away.

And yes, you can smoke next to a cop and they don't even care. They will probably only ask you to not blow in their faces. LOL! In fact, I know a cop who smokes himself. Only in The Netherlands!

Yup. Not a single police officer in the UK smokes weed off duty. I'm imagine it's the same across Europe, America and Asia...

he didn't say the cop smoked weed, he said the cop smoked HIMSELF!
That's pretty hard to do.
And possibly cannibalism.

LOL. Please. Don't get me started about The Netherlands. It's a freak show here, literally. You will not believe the things I say, even if you have an "I want to believe" poster on your wall.

Also, Pleng is taking things a bit too seriously. And who ever said I was talking about off-duty smoking?
