While I've been waiting for my Pandora, I've made this little design.

It still needs the rear panel for the power/USB/AV connections, but I don't want to do that until I have a physical unit to measure from.

I'm not sure to understand where the OP fits...

It's the transparent grey block.

It sits on the yellow shelf, which slides backwards & forwards on the LM88Us.

It should be held in place by the back plate's power, USB & AV connectors.

EDIT:

(Preface: I'm not really sure I understand this, so I'm guessing stuff...)

I'm thinking that maybe the "pandora" (closed) is the grey shaded box in the picture. Still I think you will need something to hold it in place. Or maybe you're just going to hold it in place with the port connectors? That could be a bit hard on the connectors on the long term, but if you use all of them it might just work atleast enough (I just realized this and moved my pandora around holding from the usb host port with an usb cable so whatever... I just dont normally hold my devices from their port connectors :p ). Also, using the shoulder triggers would be hard while the pandora is in a dock like this.

You could well be right about needing more - I am thinking about a clip at the front that latches on to the recess that the SD cards & volume knob are in. I think that's going to be a case of try it and see.

The idea is not to 'use' the Pandora when it's docked in the DIN mount - it's just there to play music through the car's sound system/monitor the car's VAN bus/get power.

Nice idea.

But I think rjmp-01-08 Dry Linear bearings would be a better choice for something like that.

To hold the pandora in Place you can use 3D printed Clips and to hold the slide so it won't move while you drive, you can use small neodyme magnets.

Yeah I think the ports are enough to keep the pandora in place in the sideways direction, but they might not be enough when you floor the accelerator the n-th time :p . (My DIN mounted "car stereo" is also creeping out of it's socket over time since I didnt install it properly...) Also, if you intend to keep the pandora display open at an about 90 degree angle that those drawings would allow, it will also close quite easily when you accelerate because there is no lock position at that angle. Just saying what came to mind... of course since you drive a peugeot/citroen/renault (or other that wikipedia didnt list on the VAN bus page) that might not be a problem :p (j/k).

Yeah, it's going in to Pew Got 307. So no problems with over-acceleration :)

But putting clips on the front panel to hold the lid open when in the exposed condition is a good idea. I'll think about how to do it in a later version :)

really nice - do you plan on adding some external control ?
I'm going to interface in to the VAN bus, which means I can monitor the steering wheel stalk, so I'll be able to use the CD controls to control the audio playback software.

I guess its a CAN bus ? I only have theoretical/software experience with CAN, how complicated is the electrical interface for the Pandora

It's based on CAN. I'm going to be using a TinyDuino and an MCP2551 to glom on to the bus that comes out of the back of the radio. So basically the 'duino acts as a SERDES and minimal control interface when the Pandora is missing - I don't want the radio to think it hasn't got a CD changer just 'cos the Pandy is unplugged. There's a sample monitor circuit here: http://graham.auld.me.uk/projects/vanbus/van-pc.html
