everyones monitor has different pixel pitch so you cant post the "real size" on here for everyone else to see. do it on paper.

Actually, you can. If you have configured the DPI correctly on your computer, everything (even images) that should be 1cm irl are actually 1 cm on the screen.

But I guess that not everyone has configured their DPI correctly. (maybe; Windows and Linux does this automatically so yeah)

Start up paint/gimp/photoshop/drawingprogramofchoice
select the line tool
holding a ruler horizontal against the screen, draw a line from left to right that is 3.7 inches
Now, holding the ruler vertical at the edge of the line, draw a new line from top to bottom
Now complete the rectangle.
Back in The Day™ we'd have had to use a pencil and a piece of paper to do this. Now, thanks to the miracle of technology (a fancy word that means "magic") we can have computers do all the work for us :p

*cough* *cough* (GIMP rounds it but it's still accurate)

RESULT: (If you have configured your DPI correctly, this should show up as the real size in most image viewers (SO DON'T VIEW IT IN FIREFOX!!))

It seemed a lot bigger in the videos, such as when ED was holding it.

Conclusion: ED has tiny hands?

Or, you know,

the screen has as much inch as a psp. so you guys can know how big the pandora screen will be. it only has a much larger resolution.
And i like the inches of the psp :)

My goal is to see how much of my laptop duty can be performed by the Pandora. My current vision is sitting in my hotel room with a Stowaway BT keyboard and the S-Video out plugged in to the hotel room TV. I have tried similar before with poor results, but I was always doing some kind of signal conversion, so I expect the P to be better. The other thing I have noticed is that PSP screen magnifiers can be had for about $5 and lighted ones for a few bucks more. I expect the Dremel and I will begin work shortly after arrival to try and adapt one of those for Pandora use. I can see one being handy on a plane ride.

remember the distance you will hold the pandora. The typical distance the pandora will be hold is about 30cm. The typical distance to a netbook's display will be about 60cm. holding a display of 4,3inch at 30cm is like holding a display of ~9 inch at 60 cm. Not to bad, is it?

It looks bigger in those photos than the one i've drawn and cut out (and yes, I did measure it correctly!).

Apparently my screen dpi is incorrect, because that picture was smaller than the screen of my paper model pandora (which is 1:1 scale).

Most people are on 96DPI monitors. Could you check and verify this is the correct size?

The apparent size of objects varies greatly depending on the context (surrounding objects, patterns, colors, contrast...) and the focus of your sight. If you look at a typical QVGA cell phone screen, it looks tiny as hell. However, when you focus on it, you can see every last pixel of detail, and the apparent size of the screen grows. How big area of your display are you actually looking at any given time? You can maybe see the whole display, but when you use it you actually look at a very tiny portion of it at a time.

The first one was too small, and this one's too large :)

edit: NVIDIA X Server Settings tool tells me my monitor is 89x87 dpi
