Origami?! That piece of shit?!

For god's sake, it's bigger than the XBox!

It won't go anywhere, and it will cost like $10 billion.

You sometimes wonder how these ideas are sometimes ever let seen the light day.

All the money m$ has come and they wat to enter the portable media player market , yet they release a concept device to compete with your ipod and psp devices yet is huge in comparison, theres no way in hell your going to fit that in your pocket, from the pictures i would guess its about the size of my portable dvd player. Thats pretty damn big.

Don't forget it's just a concept model.

Yeah. You'd think that, from seeing how much Sony is struggling in the handheld market, MS wouldn't be go gung-ho to jump in.

But honestly, does that thing look like a handheld console? I'm thinking it's more like a media player thing.

Let's not go nuts here !
Microsoft, like Sony, will try to corner a large percent of the gamer market, psp got it nailed.
As a portable media player, it's too big.
Mp3 player, too big.
Homebrew and freebies, GP2X wipes 'em all clean.
The only thing 'origami' may catch on to is the pocket pc side of things, and like microsofts licensing and copyright rackets, you will be able to do bugger all with this gadget. They will stifle a lot of todays users, who are a hell of a lot wiser and have a hell of a lot more choice than users of windows '95, '98 and Me.

We’ve been hearing rumblings of Origami, a Microsoft concept that looks to be a smaller-than-a-tablet PC design. It might just be a media player aimed at the Sony PSP while also functioning as a tiny mobile PC. What looks to be a detachable keyboard is part of the fold-up design (that’s why they call it Origami), and it’s reportedly able to support WiFi and perhaps even 3G wireless. The skeptical among us astutely assert that when Microsoft flogs and teases something mercilessly, it turns out to be crap. Others are saying Microsoft may be trying to steal Apple’s thunder with its rumored video-enhanced iPod waiting in the wings. Either way, we may be in for a battle to see whose tiny platform is the coolest and smallest. Stay tuned.

ALSO CLICK HERE PLEASE...

What's up with the "Halo" game play bit in this video footage?

Note: If laggy or slow when first playing the video, please wait for it to finish and then watch it again, as it will be at normal speed by then. :)

That would be Microsoft pulling a "Sony" and showing bullshit video footage.

I'm sure M$ is concidring a handheld, everyone has them now, why shouldnt they? But I have a feeling it's going to be more of a counterpart to Vista and their Media center. A video iPod killer.

Why not a PSP killer? Because M$ has said before that they feel Sony has made a mistake in splitting their focus (personally, I always thought that was just arationalization for them not being ready fo go portable) but concidering they just launched the 360 and it's reception is generally being concidered lukewarm it would be foolish to comit the same mistake they claim Sony made and instead release a product that doesn't become a lead weight that need to drag around.

If there's any gaming to be done on it, I'd expect it to be things like portable LIVE arcade content.

Overall my reaction: "meh."

And?

Meaning that the design is subject to change at any time.

It looks to be a PDA/media player/ tablet PC to me. The controls don't look very game oriented. They look like it is possible to play a game but they don't look like it is the main focus. Small buttons, few of them no shoulder buttons etc.

I've seen this somewhere I'm sure proped up with a keyboard. It looked quite nice, although I do think it falls between two stools.

I did notice an article about small name electronics so I guess we will get more and more GP2X's coming through. Its such a good idea.

The button placement on that thing is pants. It really doesn't look like it would make a good PSP competitor. It looks like their version of the OQO or some sort of mini tablet PC like that. It is kind of a super PDA, and is cool for that purpose.
