Is there some problem with me asking a question about another console in the other stuff other consoles forum?

If I wanted to ask a question at scdev.org I would have. I asked here because there are plenty of intelligent well informed GBA users on this forum. I also haven't got the time to trawl around another forum.

If I post something against the rules then by all means close the thread but until then leave my posts alone.

Bloody Cheek!

:p

But, wait, so people can talk about emulation on the GP2X, and discuss things like which games run best on the psx emulator, but ol' toadie here can't ask a question about emulation on a different console?

Stupid.

I know nothing about GBA-dev so correct me if I'm wrong here but what I'm seeing is a question about running roms on the console itself. Yup that's warez, emulation is a whole different thing.

It was right to close BaDToaD's thread as it was about warez, but an explanation would have been nice. There have been far too many threads closed just lately with no explanation at all, often with no justifiable reason. If someone does something against the rules then by all means tell them or edit their post, but closing should be a last resort to a thread that is going out of control and not common practice.

There's even been a thread just lately where the original poster asked a perfectly reasonable question and asked for comments from coders, then Vimacs (who doesn't know that much about coding) came along with an answer that wasn't completely correct and locked the thread before anyone had chance to give a correct answer.

Vimacs and Telcolou were made mods because the old mods aren't as active anymore and things were getting a bit out of control, but as far as I'm concerned the new heavy handed approach has rendered these forums virtually useless (sorry Telcolou, even you've been guilty of locking things that should have been left alone). There has the be the right balance between managing the forums and letting conversations take place and at the moment we're a long way from that balance.

Not necessarily warez. Perhaps he likes the idea of carrying around hundreds of his legally bought GBA games in something that fits in his hand?

I personally feel the mods should tone it down a bit. I think on some things they're too harsh and others they leave alone when they should be dealt with....

but I guess some things just won't change.

I would tend to agree. A locked thread used to be quite a rarity, now I would say I see at least one a day if not more, often with no explaination.

I would say the suggestion that Vimacs and TelcoLou are goosestepping their way round the forums is a little harsh but I do think they could explain their actions a little more or give fair warning of impending closures.

Many of those locked threads are complete or derailing, and leaving them open would allow them to degenerate into off-topic discussion or flamewars. Yes, I agree that things should be more casual, but you can't profess to predict how a thread will turn out, and previously it's been more bad than good.

A few weeks ago people were complaining that the forums were a mess; now it's that a few too many threads are being locked (admittedly, without explanation). I would say the latter is still preferable. And for the future, remember these mods are on a trial basis and that they need time to adjust to their new position. Things will improve and this thread has been taken into account.

Moving to suggestions.

Didn't see Bad's thread so cannae comment. But with a combination of new members (posting the same things time and time again), and new mods things are bound to take a while...

My one point is this...

I can understand locking topics on the basis of warez, when a user is asking where to aquire certain warezy things (ROMs etc.).

I can also understand locking a topic when a user is giving out wareZ releated links.

What I don't get is; Like BaDToaD was asking, problems with hardware and getting ROMs(Presumably he already has these ROMs and knows very well how to either backup or aquire more. Without necessarily encouraging others to do the same.) to work on said hardware.

Isn't there a distinct diference here?

What I thought was really ironic is that I saw this thread and on first glance it looked closed, with Rico posting last :)

Then I noticed it was just moved. *sigh*

Well, I wouldn't call them Nazi mods. Maybe national socialist mods. Or maybe just currently having sudden spasms of evil.

I'll admit that I neglected to post a reason for locking a few topics ... I'm usually viewing these forums whilst doing 4 or 5 other things at the same time.

I'll make more of an effort to explain my actions in the future :)
