I need a new laptop and want to also play new games like Battlefield 4, latest Call of duty etc. as well as emulation (MAME). Not bothered about playing at highest settings/resolution so 720 will do main thing is FPS even if lowest settings needed.

Willing to spend upto £1000 but if a £600 laptop is only slightly slower then that would be good.

For emulation probably looking at fastest CPU and single core performance more important than multi core - unless someone knows otherwise.

Any help would be greatly appreciated - BTW this is not to replace my Pandora or future PYRA!

I know you've mentioned the resolution, but what about the dimensions?  What situation will you be using the laptop in (i.e. desktop replacement, travel, LAN party)?  Also, are you concerned about using the speakers on the laptop instead of using external speakers or headphones/in-ear headphones?  Are you thinking of upgrading components after you buy it or will you be sticking with what the system seller provides?

The last new laptop I bought was an 11" laptop from PC Specialist (Clevo W110ER) with the intent to upgrade it from the lowest specification available.  I have had no contact with them after the initial sale (June 2013) with no hardware problems thus far.  Since buying it, it has bene upgraded from an Intel Pentium dual core to an Intel Core i7 quad core and intend to add 16GiB RAM with a 1TiB SSD.  Distributors that immediately come to mind are Scan, PC Specialist, XMG, and Eurocom.

I got my lenovo y500 with 16gb ram, sli GeForce GT 750M, i7-3630QM, 16gb hybrid ssd with 1tb hdd for just under $1000, though i doubt youll get that price easily again. i removed the 16gb msata and put in a 256gb msata and use that as os/games drive with media on the 1tb

not too concerned with dimensions but max 15.6" screen, used my work laptop that size on the bus/train no problem and it was heavy.

Not bothered about top spec as it soon gets outdated and price is silly - looking like i7 4700mq and gtz840m with hybrid HD, HP seem reasonable between £700 - £800 and buying direct gets good 2 year support and I have even found an 8% discount code that works - John Lewis do give 3 yrs normal gtee though - there are a few to chose from but for the money that CPU GPU configuration seems best combination for sensible money.

ya they still make em. those arent sli. you might be able to chat/call them up for sli version and get a deal like those. newer cpu/gtx obviously i got mine almost 2 years ago i think

Wish I could increase my budget but the wife thinks the £329 laptop from PCWORLD will do so cannot push it too much or the PYRA will be at risk!

In fact it /would/ suffice, depending on how you define "suffice".Your first post doesn't sound like you actually need a high end laptop for anything productive. :p

(and yes, I /do/ hope your wife reads that post :-D )

Suffice in that latest games are playable lowest settings okay - the laptop will be used by both myself and wife.
