Hello

I would need an image : a ready-to-use Image for left SD/MMC with Pandora OS Linux for the Pandora handheld ?

Currently I guess we have 3.2.57 kernel.

I need wifi and desktop, alike the default OS. However, I would need an image *.img.gz to zcat to the SD/MMC so that i can boot from the left SD card reader.

Hi..this is little bit old but you should can use

sudo opkg update
sudo opkg upgrade

..to update this Image

There exist also a Pandora Multiboot Image with many many Linux Versions for Pandora here:

The above link gives a *.imz image.
Any *.imz image is not a classic extension.


Is there just a regular *-img.gz file, so that one can use zcat / dd ? (as usual).
Uhm i think its an Diskdump Zip File and not an Diskdump Gzip File.

Easiest Way is to use this Software under Windows or with Wine to write it to an SD Card:

@that Time it was much more easy to create SD Images for me and i still use today this Software :)

Hi,i simply tried it with unzip the .imz File and i got an 16GB .ima file.
.ima should be the Same as .img and you can write it with DiskDump to a SD Card.

@openbsd98324 , maybe I'm not understanding what you want, but if you need an image to be run from the Pandora that's not the right one... I'm not sure what that image contains, but it's like 3 GB, too much for the Pandora internal storage... In the download link I can read QEMU, so if the image contains that emulator too maybe it's meant to run the Pandora OS on a PC with a different CPU... but that's just a guess...

It has nothing to do with Qemu..it was @ a Time where i got Access to the OpenPandora Server to upload Qemu Images and i used this to upload a SuperZaxxon OpenPandora SD Card Image too :)

The Image from the Link have the OS Bootable from a SD Card and some extra Software..thats beacause its around 3GB big.

When i do understand him right?....then he want a Pandora OS SD Card to use the OS on an SD Card and no Card Image to reflash the OS :)
 
I assume from the title at least that he's looking for an image to burn to an SD card using whatever OS on a computer to boot from a left SD slot to reimage the NAND, which I think is limited to 256MB or maybe 512MB.

I guess reading the OP now he could want a card he can actually boot from, but he didn't specify so the above is my guess.
 
Right, I'm not sure what the question is. Do you want to reflash the Pandora, or run the regular Pandora OS from the SD card? And why do you "need an image"? The normal boot process doesn't need things to be in any particular sector on the SD card, so normally we just partition the card and copy the files. If the bootloader on the NAND is corrupted so the Pandora can't read filesystem-based bootable cards, there is a recovery card image available.

it was not asked to reflash with Zaxxon


pandian-mark2-hf_2014-01-02.img.gz is way too old. Furthermore it is debian, and once apt-get gets old, nothing starts to work.

Diskdump is for Windows.
We leave the MS Windows world for lamers.

Is there a serious image for Linux, BSD; and the Free Operating System Spirit ?

Like tar, or gzip.
 
You still haven't explained what you want, only a subset of the things you don't want. And like I said, why do you need an image?

Is the question "How to install the latest SuperZaxxon onto SD card, so that you can boot and use it from the SD card without writing to the NAND?" There's some info about that here:
I've had a bad time on the Pandora with EXT2 SD cards getting corrupted beyond the help of fsck. When I did the SD Card SuperZaxxon install, I think I had a FAT partition with boot.txt and the kernel, and EXT4 for the rootfs.

The only solution was to use Microsoft Windows with imz. I dont know what kind of format from MS and Bill Gates. We don't buy Windows here ;)

Is there an opensource format like tar.gz or img.gz ?

You cannot be serious,... we have gzip, rawrite even for windows,... and it works for over years until now.

From my understanding imz is just an img file gzipped... rename the file to .img.gz and run gunzip.

Also Zaxxon1.55 is old, extremely old, it's not even SuperZaxxon which is the present state of the OS. Not even sure how you dug this file up.
 
Not sure if "how to run SuperZaxxon from SD card" is the OP's question or not, but it's on my mind now.

I just tested the basic version of the instructions on the wiki and they do work.

1. Format the card with a single EXT2 partition.
2. Extract the contents of http://openpandora.org/firmware/pandora-rootfs.tar.bz2 onto it.
3. Create boot.txt or autoboot.txt in the root of the filesystem with the following contents:

ext2load mmc 0 0x80300000 /boot/uImage-3

However, IMO, this is an unsatisfactory/unsafe way to run an OS. When I posted before, I thought I'd got the advanced version to work in the past, but it appears I possibly didn't. Going to try it again.

Well Zaxxon1.55 is so old not sure I'd trust that image anyway. lot of changes to charging settings, power efficiency and such has been done since then and the latest version. I'd follow HelenF and just install the latest to an SD card.
 
Looks like the OP hasn't even acknowledged any of my comments. If they ask really nicely, I might even be willing to make an image for them once I've figured out the best setup here, but if they're not talking to me I guess that won't happen ;)
 
OK, I think I got it.

Partitioned the card as follows:
4MiB unallocated (for flash alignment)
128MiB EXT2 "SZBOOT"
512MiB linux-swap "SZSWAP"
remainder EXT4 "SZROOT"

Extracted the contents of http://openpandora.org/firmware/pandora-rootfs.tar.bz2 into SZROOT.
Copied SZROOT/boot/uImage-3 to SZBOOT.
Created boot.txt in SZBOOT with the following contents:

ext2load mmc 0 0x80300000 /uImage-3
bootm 0x80300000

Edited SZROOT/etc/fstab. Deleted the "ubi1:boot" line. Added the following:
