Nds - Worth Buyin?

Read up about Castlevania DS and watch this footage of Sonic Rush. If you don't want to get a DS after seeing those two then you probably shouldn't get one. For me, the DS was the console that "won" E3. That being said, at the moment, the DS isn't a great buy. The really good games are on the horizon, not in the shops.

Man! I'd never seen Sonic Rush in motion till i saw that trailer of it. Man it looks like it plays sweet. Thats definitely one of the game that i'll be buying for ds later this year. Castlevania DS on the other hand, well, it doesn't really appeal to me. I've played previous Castlevania games and found them so-so but i'll probably buy it.

This comment is total bollocks/\. I have a DS and couldn't care less about both those games. You can't go saying don't buy a ds if you don't like this. There are much more games on it than those two.

Chillimanjaro man, I'm not insulting your heritage or anything.

I didn't say don't buy a DS if you don't like those two games and it's not what I'm trying to say. Those two games are the best examples of the kinds of games the DS will have, if you like those, you'll like a lot of the stuff that will come out on the DS. Of course there will be other games straying from the norm, it should be more likely due to all the features of the DS. I'm not seeing any though, apart from Kirby's Canvas Curse, but that has already been mentioned ... oh, and Nintendogs.

Plus, I really, really, like Castlevania ... and Sonic ... so yeah! Urgh, I need a DS.

so basically your saying the best examples of the types of games the DS will have are games that look like they could be GBA games? Seriously if this is the best the DS can do, then booooooooooo. Or just release GBA games on the GBA and stop calling them DS games.

The entire idea of the DS is that there will be a wealth of new, different, and original content available on it. Saying that Castlevania and Sonic is all you can expect for the console is absurd (though I do love 2D Sonics and can't wait for that one :D).

What you should say is if you like creative, unique titles, the Nintendo DS is probably your best bet because a lot of the gameplay elements used in its games are impossible on any other platform.

Three versions of wario ware (I would imagine they will be releasing sequels) will use up every possible function of the touch pad to the point where there'll be nothing even remotely interesting about it. Just like the dual shock when that first arrived on the scene.

Quite a few games, actually. I wouldn't call it "the norm."

You're saying that Wario Ware houses everything video games have to offer? Not quite. The touch pad (just like the dual shock) will always have new applications. It's just up to the developers to think of new ways to use them, and, if no one else, I know that Nintendo will be able to do that.

No I'm saying that due to the nature of warioware, the creation of another will perhaps reach the limits of the touchpad. It won't be long until people start saying, oh its another drag the rock game but they've just put spderman/mario/sonic etc graphics over the top.

It doesn't just have to be warioware, I'm just trying to make a point. Take Nintendogz for example, it covers the virtual pet aspect of the touch screen, now anything which comes afterwards wont seem as novel because it will just be a clone.

I guess the only flaw in my argument is that you could say the same about any game, using my logic they're should be only one of everything one 3rd person shooter one first person etc. But what nintendo have got to realise is that through the release of the DS they are releasing a new standard within the gaming community, and that is capable touch screen control and if we look at Sega as an example, look where that will land them, sega pioneered alot of new stuff and it ultimately led to their demise in the hardware market.

Don't get me wrong I love the DS and it has some fantastic games, but I don't expect it to last long, after we've seen the same touch screen novelties repeated over and over we'll be playing the new Zelda DS and be wishing the bottom screen would just fuck off and leave us alone.

One screen with touch and jopypad control would have been enough.

Who knows, maybe when I get my PSP I'll be crying out for more intercation and i'll be eating my words. :D

i nearly bought a psp becos mos of my friends own it. i decided to give a fair chance to nds since i would want to make my $ worth. i always believe in 3rd party support.

i checked the future game release schedules and matched it against the psp. i was glad i didn't buy psp on impulse. titles like castlevania and lunar genesis alone made investment on a nds worthwhile. furthermore square announced the port of ff6 on the nds, and me being a ff6 superfan, the decision was clear.

holidaying in hong kong, i bought a nds plus ganbare goemon (mystical ninja ds) for about US$160. While in hotel, i booted up and forced myself to power off in 10 minutes time cos i knew then, i am glued to it :D

after playing so far thus, havin completed goemon and naruto rpg (which caused scratches on my touch screen $#@$%&*^%...), i realised that there can be a lot of creative games incoporating the touchscreen. currently am glued to jump superstars.

pros are the creative gameplay unleashed using the touchscreen. games are more "japanese" like, have the feel of an advanced gba advance. i love the jap imports and luckily i can read katakana and chinese. and precisely the cons are the imports too due to the language barrier. plus that the screen definitely lose out to psp.

advance wars and nintendogs come out today (at least in the U.S.). They are both getting really good ratings. 2 more good reasons to buy a ds over a psp.

Advance Wars DS and Nintendogs will be out in europe pretty soon. Definitely gonna pick these up. Then Castlevania DS and Meteos will be out in europe in the next few weeks. Is Jump Superstars worth importing if u dont know japanese? just wanting to know as im tempted to get it along with some game called Ouendon which looks sweet.

A friend of mine has a DS and another friend has a PSP.

Just can't compare both. Are completely different. I think it's worth buying both. But still...I think the DS is much more funny playing, but PSP is good at screen/graphics quality, and also as multimedia/emulation system (firmware 1.5, of course :D)

I'm really interested in the DS, thought the only games I've played are Mario64 DS (I don't like Mario64, neither N64 nor the DS version) and Yoshi touch'n'go (only one level?...wtf...but it's very cool)

But I don't have enought money for buying both the nintendo ds and the GPX2, so I will buy the GPX2 ;)

Y does everyone go on bout that the PSP can do sooo much more? So wat. the psp can play movies, so can ds. psp can play music, so can ds. Im not slating the PSP at all im just stating that DS is capable (and can) do just bout wat the psp does in terms of multimedia.

capable of running them, maybe, but at the quality of UMD, i think not.

I have both the DS and the PSP and i can tell you that they both suck ass. First i want to say i use both of these for commercial use.

Since I bought the DS at launch, i own 2 games, Mario 64 and Nanostray. Mario 64 is fun til you beat it and the minigames are ok for something to do here and there. Nanostray is ok until you beat it, which takes 40 mins, and then it's pretty much worthless unless your a high score freak and like repeating the same levels over and over and over again.

I got the PSP shortly after launch and got Twisted Metal, good game, still fun to play online, but reading the reviews of all the other games, none really interest me.

I guess it's all on your personal preferences. NDS seems to have lots of cutsey games, puzzle games. so if that your thing, then should be a no brainer. PSP seems to have an over abundance of Racing games, and not enough of anything else, or quality for that matter, but seems to be the prime piece of hardware for emulation and multimedia playback, so if thats your thing, no brainer.

If your like me and want some cool commercial games, action, adventure and no f*cking Nintendogz bull shit, then sorry, both systems i feel lack in this dept.

try out meteos, kirby, and advance wars. And keep your eyes open for castlevania, mario kart, sonic, age of empires, lost in blue, lunar dragon song, new super mario bros., katamari damacy, mario and luigi 2, metroid prime hunters, mystical ninja, pheonix wright (that weird court game), trace memory, viewtiful joe, and many other great titles coming out soon. Also, I read in egm that they are making zelda for the ds but it has not yet been officialy announced (at least not that i'm aware of).

don't forget Final Fantasy III remake, the only final fantasy without any remake and never seen outside Japan. (Final Fantasy III on the NES, only released on Japan, not Final Fantasy VI on the SNES released as Final Fantasy III on USA)
