So, which emulators support multiplayer, for example via two usb-gamepads right now?

I'm asking myself this because I think of getting another usb gamepad.

I've actually been using my PSP as a second controller with FUSA gamepad, and here are the emulators I've tried so far:
MAME: Supports multiplayer. Not sure if you can configure controls in-emulator, but there might be .ini config files.
Picodrive: Supports multiplayer. Controls are completely configurable.
PocketSNES: I don't think it does.
Snes9x4c: I don't think it does.
OhBoy: I don't think it does.
Caanoo Atari 2600: I don't think it does.
Caanoo Atari 7800: I don't think it does.
Colem: I don't think it does.
DrSMS: I don't think it does.
GNGeo: Supports multiplayer.
GPFCE: Supports multiplayer. However, none of my gamepads seem to work.
GPSP: I don't think it does.
NeoGeoCD: Not sure. Don't have any multiplayer games on it atm.
NESGP2X: I don't think it does.
PCSX4ALL: Not sure. Don't have any multiplayer games on it atm.
CPS2: I haven't had any games running to test it.

I don't have a working USB hub, so I can't test anything for 3 or more players.

Thank you very much for that extensive list!

Though it looks like another gamepad would be wasted money at this point...

If you ARE going to get a gamepad, don't get anything clunky if you're going to be packing it around. Maybe find an adapter for gamepads you already have, like maybe a SNES pad to USB adapter? If you're as adept at electronics as I am, you could probably build your own.

Anyway, for NES, SNES, Master System, Genesis, and Arcade, you have a great selection of multiplayer games. I'd say go ahead and get another controller.

OK. I think of getting a SNES Controller and a usb adapter. Do you have any experience with that? Any recommendations?

Well, I've adapted a few xbox adapters for USB, and I've been planning to adapt my SNES controller to USB. If you want to buy an adapter, there are a couple of places I've seen them:

Play Asia:
You could get a Wii classic controller adapter instead. I have a Wii classic controller, and I love it.

Gamersection.ca:
I've ordered from here before. They're based in Montreal, QC, and you have to pay in USD. I bought my Caanoo here, and payed by money order. I recieved my Caanoo exactly a week after they sent it.

They also have SNES controllers that they claim work for the PC, MAC, SNES, and GP2x.

Dealextreme:
They're based in Hong Kong, and they have free shipping for everything, though you have to wait a few weeks for delivery. I've ordered from here a few times.
You should look around a bit on their site, but I found one for under $15.
