Thanks for the update. I'm glad to see that you have a long term goal to at least try to make the price lower as a long term goal. This is what I like to see, instead of comments like "$699 is the only way." I hope you have some intention to try to keep Pandora 2's price reasonable as well.
The actual price is not as critical as the value for that price. "Reasonable" is dependent both on the quality of the device and the socioeconomic strata of the customers.
If building a true high quality 'ultimate handheld computer/console' requires a price tag of $700, then that is what it should be priced at. Yes, it would eliminate a portion of the potential audience who are broke/starving/etc. Arguably those people should be spending their income on something other than a game console - maybe a new job interview outfit?
I'm sure they could build a $200 Pandora 2, but I'm also equally sure it would be utter rubbish. Doing so would eliminate a portion of the potential audience who care about the quality/capabilities/etc and have adequate funds to afford 'the ultimate handheld computer/console'. Those people would have to find something else.
There are already plenty of rubbish consoles and tablets flooding the <$200 market.
There are no high end high quality 'ultimate' consoles, possible exception being the existing Pandora(s) - though there are a few tablets making that claim.
I could see the existing 1Ghz Pandora filling a gap between those price points after the Pandora 2 ships. I personally hope they don't skimp on the details just to make it cheaper.
