Maybe windows or an OS can be ported to the GP.

Do you think you could make your signature image a little smaller in terms of file size. 234kb is a bit too big

efforts have been made to port Windows CE .NET to GP32, they're progressing. as for running Windows 98, there are licensing issues for a start, and the X86-ARM9 incompatability for seconds...

cool, i'd like to use photoshop on it

speak freely, i don't think it would be useful...win98 is a ugly OS on PC, why put it on GP32?

why about OpenBeos (www.openbeos.org) instead? ;)

ok, i'm dreaming... :)

actually iirc there was an ARM based laptop on ebay that showed it booting to windows 2000 B) i think it had LOADS more memory than the gp tho...

Well im wonder about the old old old palmtops that uses special chips might of been arm that ran dos like the atari mini pc etc might be usefull if we can see abot them sure theres a free ware version but it prop wont work.

There are about 4 different platforms already emulated you could play lemmings on. I think we would be better getting an OS emulated that is already suitable for the GP's size/memory like PalmOS, or EPOC5 from the psions. Even then, lack of a keyboard/mouse/touchscreen would limit how usefull it would be. I can't imagine win98 running in 320x240 it looks bad enough in 640x480.

Windows is not so much an OS as a GUI. An OS is the basic programming that allows a computer to accept commands and run programs. The original firmware for the GP32 is an OS, albeit a very limited one.

What you want is a GUI, and there already is one. Windups may have some shortcomings, but it's still being developed, so give it some time. There is also a GUI in development called WinGP, but I don't know anything about it.

They want windows for its code not the gui they want to be able to run windows apps on the gp32.

That's ridiculous. First you'd need to emulate the x86 cpu, which would take speed and memory. Then to run windows on top of that would take more speed and memory. There certainly won't be anything left to run your actual program on top of that! Win98 needs a MINIMUM of 16 meg by itself, and it doesn't run well without 64.

Windows CE is designed for limited-resource enviroments, but it relies heavily on a touch-screen. Plus there's not too much software that would make it worth the trouble.

If you had a decent x86 emu, you could probably run windows 3.1. I had it running on a 286 12MHz laptop with 2 meg ram, so the GP32 should be able to handle it wven on top of the x86 emulator.

err well i dont know why u would think we want 98 on it its not possible (i know the guy posted bout 98)

What we would like is linux so then we could run the PDA programs etc from the commandline.

Even if we had Wince we can have the joystic as the mouse its the same as a touchscren it is a mouse driver it detects what the x and y axis is and thats how it runs the program u just clicked

Pocket PC have alot of cool games. And a lot of the (older) hardware is the same as the GP, right down to the CPU. So getting an older version of the pocket PC os to run could be usefull, screen res and bit depth are similar as well. I doubt you would need to emulate anything, as the samsung chip in the GP is used in pocket pc's.

there are loads of PocketPC games listed here:
