Pandora Looking For A Few People To Get Prerelease Pandoras

Good... no I am not dissing anyone, I just think a dev with money should get better priority over the dev without money. It is more of a guarantee to CraigX that, "Yes I can dev for it, and to prove it, I am going to back up my mouth with money so I can get my point across". Every post I read, not one single person wanted to offer money for the unit. After all, the Pandora team is not flush with cash or anything.

I would pay if necessary(for a pre-release). I've put my money down for a release Pandora, but I may be useful to some capacity, it depends who is more useful. :)
It's worth noting I would also have no problem in receiving Pandora with incomplete software. So long as I have some way of running a program (terminal, remote execution through wifi or whatever) It would be very handy for me to have a Pandora sooner rather than later from a dev perspective.

Also a few people have asked about costs in this thread, I don't think there has been a reply... I do see your point, however.

Right... I am just putting up a clear offer so that he knows I am serious about the deal. I am also willing to negotiate the value I have set as well if he thinks $75 is too low. But, considering it is a token donation, this might not be a problem.

I think you made your point there, big daddy. You ain't no cheap sunnavabitch who expects a little something in return for pouring hours upon hours of their own time into creating and working on freeware stuff. :)

Seriously man what kind of crap is this "a dev with money should get better priority over the dev without money"? That's the lousiest thing I ever heard, way to bring the worst of what capitalism has to offer in a hobbyist scene that thrives on generosity and love for what they do.

I wrote to whizmike two days ago, but sadly he did not respond in any way. :(

...but I'm still hopeful. :)
If he works for Image.Tech. I would imagine he would be totally surrounded by NDAs and the like. I doubt he would be allowed to, legally, say _anything_ about how the SGX works. This is only guessworks from my side, but I imagine that if they were prepared to be open about this they would have made their full documentation available already.

For real? They haven't announced any terms/qualifications other than the chosen individuals should have time to do development work. I think it's pretty obvious that they are looking for people who have previous porting experience, are going to stick with development work through thick and thin, able to constructively communicate bugs/feedback to the other hardware/driver/software developers and who are able to provide a non trivial amount of time.

If all they were looking for was money they could easily provide a link to ebay auctions and just let the highest bidder win. This doesn't guarantee the winning bid will be to someone who is a capable of providing software back to the community.

There wasn't even a request for people to dump their resume here or any request for contact information. The post was just for individuals who have time and interest to let the team know. I am sure that they already know who they'd really like to have on board and I'd be willing to bet that it is developers who have already proven themselves to the community.

Until the pandora team lists further details about what they are looking for I wouldn't go off speculating on what would make someone a better candidate than another. I'm not saying this is the case, but it comes across as "I'm more qualified than everyone else because I have <x>"

I'm sure, you're right. But at the same time, there may be are some information that do not violate NDAs, and may be helpful.
But if he cannot share anything (and that may be the case) - he can just say so. Currently he did not replay at all, so I'm hopeful. No bad news is good news, right ? B)

Wow... damn I started a flamefest. My bad, I wasn't intending to stir bad blood. I have a love for this hobbyist stuff and only want to help. I guess I came across as a chauvinistic douche bag and a supremest...

Hi craigx, i would be happy to be able to grab one of the pre-units this time. I tried to get one of the dev board but it seems i was too late.

I have some time to spare, and i already have a good knowledge of linux and low-level kernel stuff.

I ported the first linux distro to the xbox 360 (with the help of felix domke, see http://free60.org/ ) and coded some psp/iphone/gp2x stuffs.

Let me know if i can help :)

I might be going out on a limb here but Ive spoken to ED about the purpose of all of this and here are some of the answers:
1. These dev units shouldnt count towards the unit you preordered, but the deal is that is get one you will actually be involved and contribute somthing useful.
2. The main aim is to bring gmenu and the angstrom up to speed for use by regular users. It would be things like modifing gmenu to setup the wireless. Tweaking the kernel to work better with angstrom.

I had thought it was to get applications ready to go before launch, but its more of a user interface push.

In that case, I'm more than happy to help with that. I'd been building an Angstrom development environment, and have it running on my Beagle Board. One thing I'd been investigating was more optimal ARM compilers than mainline gcc, such as the codesourcery one which can provide boosts, such as using NEON instructions.

i thought gcc could use NEON? (link)

Hi,

Forgot to mention that I have ported GMenu2x to another platform already GizMenu so if you need help with GMenu2x porting or such, then I have a fairly intimate knowledge of it already.

-(e)

I am getting prepared to blow all my combined christmas and birthday money (I'm a CS student) on one of these jobbies because I cannot wait to write my own things for it.

I'd really like to get some more basic applications running on it, like a nice simple calendar, notetaking, email, etc. It would certainly help me justify taking it to work and class all the time. on a slightly less practical note, I play a lot of D&D over the tubes with friends who live far away with a web-based dice roller to prevent against cheating. I'd like to port a version of that as well as write some additional D&D tools to aid my nerding.

I also (of course) greatly desire to write games for it. I most want to code my fantastic idea for a multiplayer ender's game freestyle 0-gravity arena multiplayer fantastic fiasco.

Such is my pathetic plea for a pre-release system.

Have a nice day!

Aah, I take it the "G" is pronounced as in "get" and not as in "general". For a moment there, I thought you were proposing some kind of portable porn-cataloging tool ;-)

EvilDragon wrote in blog that MK2 development kits have been sent to 20 selected developers.
Did those developers got any PM/email about it being selected ?

Ir in another words: does this mean I should abandon all hope of getting one ?
