As a local looney in North London used to shout quite loudly in supermarkets - "The Best Of Luck!". It is quite hard to learn a computer language when you do not have a basic project in mind, but I hope you do better than I did.
What set me back was that i had set my sights on building a C++ database but the tools I was using (a free version of Borlland C++ from a magazine that had most of it's database components removed making the tutorial unusable) made it unviable.
I am not complete computer illitarate either. About 70% of my job involoves writing SQL or VB code, although they are obviously fairly high level languages compared with C (I mean high in a kind of "a lot easier than low level" way)
