I'm definitely looking foward to the Pandora for a lot of different things. The keyboard is weird, but definitely needed. if you want a dedicated gaming device get a DS or PSP as other people have said.
I think all the buttons should be mapped to a real keyboard. This would increase compatibility from having a more featured keyboard on hand, and make it easier for writing up key config files too as you'd just write the keyboard equivalent. Something like:
L: Alt
R: Ctrl
A: PageUp
B: PageDown
X: Home
Y: End
Select: Menu key.
Menu/Start: Logo/meta (Definitely be cool to link the meta/logo key)
Something along those lines anyway.
I see no way this could be bad for games or programming as long as you can't easily hit a common key combo. Alt and Ctrl were pretty common dos game action keys, so they'd be good as L/R or similar by default.
