And wouldn't YOU like to know?
So, recently I bought a Microsoft Wireless Desktop 800 keyboard/mouse. It appears to use HID drivers and all that crap. However, the keyboard doesn't work. The mouse works, but the keyboard doesn't. I've tried it with the adapter plugged into the port alone, I've tried it through a hub, all to no prevail. I wonder, why would the mouse work but not the keyboard?

no surprise with that microsoft crap

EDIT: that was more an IRC joke ;)

HID stand for Human Interface Device. It's a long standing standard which should works everywhere even under linux.

And beside my joke, MS hardware used to work very well under linux. I, for one, had MS keyboard and joystick that worked very well.

Yet I cant help, sorry mate

Have you tried it with a powered hub? I wonder if the transmitter part for the keyboard requires too much power.

I tried to plug it into the wall. The lights flickered, there was an extremely high-pitched whine from the hub, and it hasn't worked since.

...so, yeah. That's probably not an option anymore.
