i would like to know, since the pandora is open source and can multitask, is it possible to force 1 apps sound and cancel others?
like, could you make it so i can play any emulator but listen to my own music while playing games?

I guess its possible but it really depends how much of a cpu hog the emulator.
if it takes a lot of juice there may be no CPU power to power your own music so...

bottom line is - its possible!

it is possible on the pandora without problem as this was something i really had to know about when multitasking ,the only options just now are all down to the emulation options like (sound on/off) inside the emulator otherwise you hear both play at the same time without slowdown or drops in sound.

when i was messing with emulators on the pandora i would have my fav radio stream in the background ,the only thing stopping it was the wifi drop from time to time as mp3s play without a glitch.

bare in mind we are not talking n64 or psx but if you disabled the sound in those emusd then your music would play no problem ,i just can't imagine the pandora doing both without the emulator slowing down even more.

possible makes me happy, i wanted this for my dingoo but found out that was impossible, soooo yeah possible is good :D yeah i wasnt expecting my music with n64 or psx emulation thats just asking for trouble :D
thanks guys

I'd just like to point out that I think it's up to individual application developers to allow you to turn off sound in their programs. That is, you can definitely have multiple apps producing audio output, but there is no way (of which I'm aware) to completely prevent an app from outputting sound. Fortunately, most emulators seem to have an option to disable sound; just make sure to convince developers of other apps to do the same.

Hmmm I wonder if there'd be a way to incorporate an application level mixer in further versions of the Pandora OS. I agree though, that all emulators should have the option to turn off sound for this purpose. Also as a lot of the N64 games I play I've played through 100's of times before -it's nice to have the option to turn off sound emulation to get the graphics that little bit smoother :)

I don't think there's much you can do in ALSA without using something like pulseaudio, which seems odd to be honest since it already does soft mixing...
