um, seems to me that parts of jme are already ported. You should take a look in the archives, so you dont repeat any work already done.

Also have a look at Jalimo.

I suggest going for desktop, there's microemu that can run on top of that if jme is really needed.

Hi, I'm looking at Pandora as great mobile platform and I seriously plan to develop at least one Java application but I really don't have the skills and time to port JRE for Pandora. Do you have any practical experience with running Java applications on Pandora ? HOWTOs or tutorials would be too good ... :)

binary_runner, you can pretty much assume that, if it runs on Linux, it'll run on Pandora. There may be a few things that need tweaking, but it should be minor. That's the beauty of Java. :D

I'm really interested in making java apps for the pandora
I'm starting to learn java now (done C, some basic/visual basic/C# before) for a university project (electrical engineering) and it would be wonderful for me to see some of my own work in a portable like this :)

OpenJDK6 is now ported to ARM processors!
This means that all j2se Java applications used on desktop computers can run on Pandora!

Since Pandora is based on Debian armel prebuilt packages already exists!

The pandora developers can try install the interperted zero Hotspot virtual machine for java by running
apt-get install openjdk-6-jre

There exists a JIT virtual machine as well based on CACAO research vm instead of hotspot currently found in the Debian armel unstable (sid) branch.
apt-get install cacao-oj6-jre

I have tested these packages on my ARMv5tejl based system and have some screenshots of my ARM board running OpenJDK here: http://labb.zafena.se/?p=30

Cheers!
Xerxes
