Japanese Input

Well first of I want to confirm your procedure.

1. Install Japanese ttf/ttc fonts into /usr/share/fonts/truetype

2. Install Japanese locale

angstrom-locale-ja-feed-config

install locale-base-ja-jp

3. add following line into $home/.profile (.profile in your home directory) May not needed if you don't want to change menu language)

export LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8

export LC_ALL=ja_JP.UTF-8

4. install xim(gtk-immodule-xim)

5. Extract uim+anthy.tar.gz on /

6. Add following line into $home/.profile (.profile in your home directory)

Actually if your installation is correct you can see toolbar even type in terminal.

P.S.

This is also important.

most of operations are have to do as root.(sudo -s is much easier than wiki's instruction)

I suspected that, and I tried gedit and leafpad but the button did not do anything in these applications. I will try firefox!

Well i think something wrong.

I'm okay to use anthy with leafpad to enter Japanese.

Did you install everything?

If you tell me what did you done include .profile then I'll check it for you just in case.

Also have you check input method in settings.

You can configure default settings. eg. define toggle key , set default ime etc.

1. Install Japanese ttf/ttc fonts into /usr/share/fonts/truetype

Do I need to install japanese fonts if firefox can already view japanese pages? That should mean japanese fonts are already installed?

Plus, where do I get the right japanese fonts?

Yes you need to install if you want Japanese perfectly.

No there is no Japanese fonts pre-installed on Pandora it's a Chinese fonts(uming.ttc)

Chinese fonts can show Japanese but not 100% coz. different character sets.

You can copy from your PC(this is easiest way) but illlegal so better to use free fonts.

There is many truetype fonts are available for free.

Just for example

http://en.sourceforge.jp/projects/ipafonts/

Also need to change default font to IPA Fonts in Appearance after copy it.

Let me check again if I missed something during the install. I will check this evening :)

Thanks for your kind help !
BTW did you resolve this problem?

Coz. there is nothing hear from u so hopefully okay now.

Actually still not resolved...

I did :

1. Install Japanese ttf/ttc fonts into /usr/share/fonts/truetype

2. Install Japanese locale

angstrom-locale-ja-feed-config

install locale-base-ja-jp

4. install xim(gtk-immodule-xim)

5. Extract uim+anthy.tar.gz on /

I skipped step 3 - is it really needed if I do not want my system to be in Japanese?

I can still see the input bar button but still nothing comes up when I click it while trying to type in a text field...

Step 6 I did as well (I just forgot to copy the line when I answered) - so I need to do step 3 ? I will check it out. But won't that make my system all in japanese?
