Is A Syndicate Port Possible? (pic Warning)

Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm still a noob in many ways. It's just, everybody's getting their favorite games ported (Keen, Rick Dangerous, etc) and I want in. Funny thing is I didn't like the game when I first got it, mainly because I didn't understand how to play. Once I figured out the controls and what not it became a tremendously fun game. In any case, I was wondering if some type of port is possible. Not so much if someone will do it - just if it's possible. I know how to program but I've never ported anything nor worked on any type of emulator, so, if it is possible, what kind of steps can I take to figure out how I could port this myself, etc.? It'd be the biggest project I'd ever taken on, but I'm jus curious.

If I can't port it I'll jus play the Mega Drive version :p

He's right you know.

You could remake it if you really wanted to I guess, but it'd be a big job. Also semi-pointless seeing as you can play several versions already with emulators...

Yeah i suppose source would be helpful :p

Any version better than the MD version available on gp2x? Even if Jaguar's is better (not sure it is) I don't see a Jag emu coming anytime soon to gp2x.

Dolmio?

Also thanks for the replies (and patience) guys.

There's a version for the SNES that might work. Maybe you could try it and let us know.

Was there a PlayStation version, it will be very similar to the PC one if there was. Snes for now and then PlayStation when the emu has improved.

Yep, sort-of. Syndicate Wars was ported from the PC version to the PSX:

Personally, I preferred playing it with a mouse on my Amiga.

Well if you had the source the time and the will you probably could.

I had the amiga version of this and that was the best version. I managed to complete all 50 missions. Its just a shame I never got the mission disc which had 50 more missions on it.

Umm, the user FireFox has already ported a Jaguar emulator to the 2X and is working on making it better. I don't think he's released any versions yet, but I could expect to see it in the near future. ;)

I believe its optimized to play Tempest 2000 primarily. I'm excited about its amazing progress, but I think its advisable to manage your expectations of what it will be able to run. Firefox is certainly welcome to tell me I'm wrong here, its one of those rare occasions I wouldn't mind being wrong at all... :)

yeah i'd agree the amiga version is the best i remember completing the game after playing it for a month solid (it is real addictive, and all the character enchanement addons like metal ribcages and stuff, it was awesome), man the last level is the hardest thing. amazing graphics for the day - we can only hope for some amiga action soon on the gp2x

Actually, I thought about including that fact in my post, but I decided not to. XD

But, the way FireFox made it sound was that it was optimized to play Tempest 2000 and a certain few OTHER games well. If this really was good on the Jaguar, maybe the dev decided to optimize the emu to play it. ;)

LOVE this game, it would be a real boon to play it on the 2X. Doubt you can find source anywhere, and a recreation would be incredibly tough, I'd imagine.

The Amiga version was the best IF you had an HD and a working HD Install script. I found the floppy switching and waiting with 2 drives frustrating. 4 Drives in an emulator works best, but I've never found a complete adf set anywhere and when I tried to make my own, I blew out the serial port on my old A500... *Sigh* Oh well, I sold that A500 for parts.

I think the Genesis emulator would be good, but with the CPU power of the Jaguard, it might run faster... I've never seen either of those versions in action.
