Intel abandons future Atom line of processors


Unfortunately Intels problem with the Atom line was that they were cheep so they weren't getting there normal massive income numbers when they were used in low end netbooks or things like the compute stick. They were priced to match ARM chips to get cell phone makers onboard and that didn't happen. I don't see them pricing the new line less than there core m line or they will have the same complaint when they end up in low end systems.

Actually - I think they may have found an angle to that. Notice in these articles that the Joule SoC modules specify embeded Linux as the supported OS. Maybe they decided that these types of SoC modules can exist and not canibalize other product lines so long as they -don't- support Windows?
 
I like the sound of that I just hope it isn't super locked down to stop other types of Linux from running.
