Release Hotfix 5 - RC2. Last one before going final

Status
Not open for further replies.
I've built one OS bootable SD card which I use to develop from and stack up with opkg goodies, to avoid stuffing up my nand (that last bit didn't sound right :) )

I was wondering though, is it possible to extract the root fs from this release and arrrage it so that it boots from SD rather than flashes? If the boot directory contains the kernel and all of the other directories are present, isn't that all that is really needed (plus the boot init file)?

So does that mean we are finally going to see HW accelerated video?
Wrong. It just means that a better mplayer is used and some restrictions that were set on the kernel side (meant to possibly help saving a little energy since it would have been unusable so far anyway) were removed. The new mplayer "just" has better decoders embedded, that are faster. There is *NO* usage of the DSP as of the moment and if it ever will be used is still open.

okay got that irksome boot problem - i.e. boots past splashscreen but then stops.

only thing i have noticed when it does this is a sound ( whoosh kind of sound?) like some circuit discharging/charging(?) when i toggle the power switch.

keep up the good work though! :)

Got my pandora and downloaded this, but when I hold right shoulderbutton and power it on. I only see "default boot" "power off" and "serial prompt". Do I need to setup the pandora, download the previous hotfix in .pnd and install and then do this one? :p

EDIT: I have updated to hotfix 4 but still cant choose "boot from SD1:1". Any ideas?

You can always get he latest (and older) images as ROOTFS and flashable image on the official firmware page :)

make sure the content of the archive is extracted in the root. i believe the pandy look at the sd 1:1 slot to see if its content is bootable first (1:1 is the left sd slot)

Try to reformat your SD Card with Panasonic SD Formatter or try to use a different one.

This usually happens if the partition isn't properly setup.

I'll try that, good thing I still have a copy of the sd on my comp(and my cheap 6mb/s sdhc which actually writes in 16mb/s (-: )

EDIT: Just did a quick format with that program. Now I can choose to boot from SD1:1 and it's currently flashing. Thanks for the help (-:

Thanks ED. Will probably do this as it is certainly the latest. I guess I was thinking that the latest ROOTFS from the above link is a moving target and not necessarily directly linked to HF5RC2. So if I used it and provided feedback on issues it might not relate to RC2 exactly, and might mislead?

Just downloaded pandora-rootfs.tar.bz2 from link above. For some reason I'm getting the error below, looks like a permission error but I'm extracting it into a folder in my home directory
sad.gif

Code:
tar: Record size = 8 blocks

tar: ./dev/tty0: Cannot mknod: Operation not permitted

the issue i reported for rc1 is still here (in op_cpu_speed.sh), i guess its not much of an issue other than the fact it allow anyone to create a pnd that crash the pandora everytime you run it (set the overclock to 2000 for instance), since the commandline part of the script doesnt respect the max limit.

Ah, haven't seen that report!

Thanks, will fix that for the final release.

i dont know if its old or not, but there is a bug in the op_cpu_speed script. that can be fixed with a simple :.

if you change the default cpu voltage, it add a maxopp field to cpu.conf, which cause it to be appended to $maxmhz in cpu_speed. essentially disabling the upper limit for pnd overclock.

changing grep max to grep "max:" in op_cpu_speed line 5 fix the issue.

Thanks, fixed :)

either me or you is going crazy EvilDragon... and for once, i think its not me :p .

Okay. So, I had been trying to connect to my work's computer without having to alter any settings on their end. I was on hotfix4 and saw that some people were having success with the wifi beta, so I installed it. Then my nubs bjorked on me. Both of them with no warning what-so-ever. I figured it has to be a software thing. The next logical step was, "Since I have to reflash I might as well up it to the latest beta hotfix (RC2)." It worked! When I finished the start-up my nubs worked and I was able to jump on my work's network. Once. For the internet and nubs. I then went to the input tester to see what it might show me. I'm not getting a reading from my nubs, and when I press right-dpad the speakers make a dreaded noise. Also, while I was hoping that it is a software thing, I loaded up Audacious and it gave me an Alsa "no suitable mixer element found" error? My mixer is still where it has been since I got my Panda (I upgraded my order on my two year wait-aversary and got it eight days later (show those vaporware twats)) a week ago. Is this related to the weird sound in the input tester? I still think it is software related. I would like to reflash to hotfix4 to see if it will go back to normal, but are there any output logs that might be useful for you guys before I erase the situation (hopefully)? Where would I find such files? Oh, and my wifi issue is probably dhcp related based on the digging I did. It was merely the first domino. Thank you whomever was compelled to read this whole post.

Edit: I forgot to mention the battery thing. I think it's random because twice, when I wasn't even doing anything, my battery meter has told me I have negative one-hundred something percent battery left. I'm still messing around and will report back.

Edit2: Changing the maximum allowed opp level caused a crash, but I could not reproduce.

Edit3: -110% this time. Is it the battery manager's issue?

Edit4: How do I make a spoiler tab because my dmesg has some interesting stuff in it?

ter: 4/2

Edit6: I opened the input tester to check something and sure enough now that my Pandora can see my mixer both the left and right_dpad make a noise to correlate with each speaker. Duh. That makes sense. The input tester´s touch screen mechanism might be screwy as well though. Is there a cross hair that is supposed to follow my touches? I see the corner of one I think in the top corner of my screen, but it does not respond. My touchscreen works great outside of the program though. It is a noticeable difference from hotfix4.

might be a dumb question, but how do i flash this if my right shoulder button doesn't work?

Why doesnt it work? they are usually quick and easy to fix.

neither of them worked when i got it, i fixed the left one pretty easy, i have it so the right one should be registering, (the button feels good and you can feel the click), but for some reason it won't. :(

occasionally get keyboard shortcut bug - have to go into keyboard settings and re-initialise? setting to get it to work

I've been away for some time (playing with my new Archos 101), so this may be a silly question: Wasn't HF4 supposed to be the last one before a new firmware?

And is work still being done on power management? I find it a bit embarrassing that I can put the Archos 101 in deep sleep and make the battery last for weeks, while the Pandora dies in less than a day on standby.

Or is Android that much better?
