With the OS source release how do 'we' control the patches, mods, updates that people are comong out with so that this does not fragment into one uncontrolled mess of patchs that work with version xxx but not 'toms' versin of the 1.4+ source...

We need to be careful...

Or do the developers talk back to GP Holdings and try and get them to intergrate the changes back into the offical source/firmware...

there is no control .. unless the Open2X project really fires up and gets a core set of developers producing friendly-releases which do not break factory-compatability, it will be total anarchy, every man for himself, roll your own kernel, build your own fileimages, and oila .. chaos ..

Hardly chaos.... I think it will be like this:

ppl who want to roll their own now can.
Open2X can now start on their changes and make some releases if they want.
ppl who are too affraid of the first options can use the standard firmware.

I hardly think that ppl who roll their own kernels will see fit to post them for download. As far as I know the ppl working on usb and sdio etc will just release modules... these can then be put into Open2X or used on stock kernels.

I hardly think chaos will ensue. Anyway, Open2X will have a CVS setup which will bring some organisation to the supposed mess.

my 2 cents.

I don't know if that will happen there are only 3 people working at GPH as far as I know, and I think Dignisdhsdfjlkjsd (can't remember their name) have finished with the source now.

I sent a question to GPH:

"Do GPH plan to integrate any useful/excellent community created patchs/updates to the firmware as and when they arrive, with the possiblility of making them offical in future versions.

How do you plan to handle this?

Thanks"

I got this replay from 'master':

"Hello, Nickmon

Thank you so much for your interest.

GPH is already planning to run an open source community where GPH will suggest various projects and GP2x users can creat their own project.

As you mentioned, GPH is considering integrating community crated patchs/updates and making them official after fixing every flaws in the software.

Thanks "

How silly.
So they are saying that they will setup a community where they say:
Produce 3D engine for us.

And then developers can make it for them? Will they give incentives?

They should aim to try and integrate with gp32x.de a little more, although that never happens, as companys always want control.

This is the part I like best. When do you think GPH will fix every flaw in there software?

I figure someone will take the source we have and create their own source tree, which will then become the main tree (which GPH will then copy)

I reckon we will have:
- GPH Official Firmware
- Unofficial Firmware Un/Stable (Based on the oddbots changes?)
- SDK2x / HH
