This is the board for ideas right? I have one:

Why not have a high scores table?

The beauty of all these retro games is that they're largely score-based, unlike so many modern games where the only goal is to complete them. I have fond memories of competing to be the best on various games among one's peers.

I'm rather proud of my 989'000 high score on arcade Bombjack and would like somewhere to shout about it.

Of course, we'd have to submit screen shots as proof, unless we all trust each other.

Your thoughts?
 
You could avoid the "screen shots as proof" issue by requiring a cryptographic signature and having games which support the high-score signature generate it using a dynamically linked, closed-source library.

Then we'd just read the cryptographic string off of the high score screen and punch it into some webpage somewhere. A bit more work, but it'd be slightly more trustable.
