is a save-system-state-to-sd function ever going to be possible?

to be able to hold down a combination of buttons to suspend to SD card which completely powers down the machine then bring it back to life at that exact point would be absolute gold-dust for me.

would it be a firmware thing or a homebrewski?

it can be done. well and truly. whats needed is a little patience .. there are linux kernel hackers working on the gp2x config right now to build a factory-compatible custom kernel with *all* kinds of things GPH didn't do right on the stock kernel config .. bootup times will be faster, there is a way to do suspend, multi-player, networking (yes), etc.

just: patience.

But is it liable to break or be incompatible with a firmware update from GPH ?.

EDIT: I guess you are refering to Hardcore Homebrew (HH) ?.

no .. i'm not referring to HH .. i'm referring to competing linux distro's for the GP2X (which are 100% possible) which extend the functionality of the gp2x (while remaining 100% compatible with GPH) by doing what GPH don't dare to do, like:

- overclock on bootup to get super fast startup times
- suspend to disk image
- add 'standard' linux-like stuff like syslogd-lite
- replace gp2xmenu with something a bit smarter

all of this can be done in Linux-land. in other words, its quite feasible that the open2x project could produce an alternative-yet-compatible gp2xkernel.img/gp2xfile.img which fixes a bunch of these 'basic' things in the way the GPH setup is configured ...

And that is the true power of this little gadget I don't know why some people are being so negative about it, it's been out what 4 months? It's only been available 2 devs for that long as well, give them a bit of time and wait for GPH to release the source and we will see some truly cool things happening with the 2X.

I don't know about you but i can't wait :)

Let them see the light when they get networking, multiplayer, proper SD card support and such stuff from a community built firmware ... :)

Well, I'm getting fedup with the startup times now, so may do something about it. It'll probably turn most units into bricks however ;)

What are PCB's made out of? Perhaps you could use those instead? Or just reinforce the plastic with them.
